OP, let me guess, even with your listed highway percentages, I'd bet you do a fair amount of driving into the mountains and back? Plain and simple fact is that mountainous driving is much harder on tires, expect shorter tire life. Add in the weight of these trucks on mountainous roads... I do live in the mountains, just west of Denver, and have experienced the same short tire life. The OEM Michelin tires only lasted 22k miles. Went with another tire after, forget the name, but again, about 23k miles. I'm currently running Goodyear Wrangler Duratac now with about 25k miles and still looking good. I suspect I might get 40k miles out of them. My priorities were around load range E with decent traction on snow.Re: Connecting Satellite Thru Outside JackJust install your own weather proof coaxial plate and connect it to a new inside coaxial wall plate. Simple and there are no splitters or other items that could filter out the signal. That's what I did.Re: Where do full timers go out west to escape the heat?As mentioned, the PNWet, far north CA, OR, WA and ID. If you're going to try and stay on the coast, be prepared to be turned away without reservations, so get them if you can. Also on the PNW coast, be prepared for wind, overcast and cold even during the summer... but it can be beautiful. Although not necessarily escaping the heat, if you're in OR, make sure and spend some time near John Day, go to the Painted Hills NPs.Re: Ford pickup recall bobsallyh wrote: https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2019/12/06/ford-pickup-truck-recall-tailgate/4352140002/ Just have to love it! From the article: "Dealers will fix the tailgate frame wiring harnesses and install a new tailgate handle release switch. Owners will be notified by male during the week of Jan. 20." Ford is going to send a guy out to each owner's house to inform them? That's dedication.Re: Camping near Moab, UtahSlickrock RV is older but has the best tree coverage if you're looking for shade, also fairly close to downtown. Stayed there a couple of times, once in dead summer, and the shade was very welcome. If there for OHV running, you will need to trailer to the trailheads unless you have a street licensed SxS. Dirt "pads" and gravel/dirt roads. Also stayed at Archview. You can ride OHVs direct from Archview to some trailheads. Archview is further away from town but is nice, I'd stay there again, it is newer so the trees are small, no shade. Has a community fire pit, small general store and attached fueling station. For RV parks in Moab, it kind of comes down to what you are there for with regards to convenience.Re: Back to Angel Fire... again Desert Captain wrote: For the first time we have yet to see any Elk but the deer and wild turkey's are everywhere. Angel Fire is awesome. I live at 8000' but in CO. Nights/days have started to cool, except this weekend got warm again, and we are starting to see the elk migrate down from higher elevations. Rut season is upon us. The way you describe temps in the Angel Fire area, sounds like the elk there haven't migrated down from the high country just yet. They're probably close but guaranteed the bulls are following the cows.Re: Chevy, Ford... going into electric trucks. fj12ryder wrote: I did, and got water in my eyes from the rain. Now what? I haven't done it yet, but I'm considering a motion-activated light near the door for when we forget to leave our porch light on. It may have to be one that we remove when we are on the road. Does anyone have a good idea for this? Why not just replace the coach porch light with something like MG1000-450W, 12 Volt Exterior Motion Sensor RV LED Porch Utility Light, American Designed Bright RV Security Motion Porch Light, White while keeping the current switch. Can turn the light off as normal. Light says it can be used as both motion activated or standard porch light. Also says it wires in to the current coach wiring/battery.
