Re: Our custom true flatbed truck camper build thread Jfet wrote: On the way back from Helens we decided to take a detour to the WA coast since we were relatively close to Long Beach, WA. We ended up staying two nights on the beach at the Cape Disappointment state park and rode our motorcycles some 20 miles up the beach. Jfet wrote: That's a great little campground. Mary and I stayed there in February during one of the Razor Clam openings. There was a minus tide about 4:30 pm, sunset was about 5:30. It was 40 degrees and raining sideways with a 40 knot wind. Even with a minus tide the surf was running nearly up to the high tide mark. I stood my ground on more than one clam extraction and had water come over my nearly knee high boots. I was soaked and frozen but ended up with a great bunch of lovely Razor Clams. It was worth it, but I think that was my last Winter Clam dig. Re: Would you buy a flatbed for your TC?I've had this flatbed since 2006, it's very stable on the road and only 18 feet long overall. Re: Boise ID. CampingI would head up to Hell's Canyon. Very awesome, but it looks like it would be a pain to service the engine on the road, as the camper overhang looks like it would block the cab from being able to tip forward. It takes about 5 minutes to jack the camper up and pull ahead. My other Fuso project has a tilt bed so I'll be able to raise the camper to tilt the cab. Re: What to plan for if you're thinking the Al-Can Hwy in a TC?We drove up to Skagway in two days from Bellingham, a leisurely pace. There are a lot of critters on the road at dusk though. We delivered a truck to Juneau, spent a few days and rode the Ferry back to Bellingham. Bring lot's of sunscreen, it was relentless on our trip. Day after day of cloudless skies and temps near 80….
