We are looking for route and half way overnight stop suggestions. Thank youRe: Maine, Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec in 2019Yes, fiddle and old-time music is a favorite of ours..and the “Cailidh Trail” is on our list. It looks like we will be in NS/PEI in September..we are originally from CT and may start our trip north in August with family activities there.Re: Raleigh, NC to BostonWe used to live in CT...Raleigh residents now. When we go to CT with our 5th wheel, we do the 95-17-66-81 route. Around Harrisburg, PA, we pick up 78 to 287 in NJ and take this over Tappen Zee Bridge, then 684 to Brewster NY and pick up 84 into CT...this goes up to 90 (Mass Pike). We started doing this because 81 through Scranton is a terrible road. Be aware that 90 (Mass Pike) is now a cashless toll road...if you don’t have EZPass, I guess they take picture of license plate and send you a bill... Safe travels...Re: Maine, Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec in 2019My husband and I are intrigued by the ferry. We get the part about only paying PEI-NS.....what we’re not sure about is the reservation part going NS-PEI and possibly not getting on the ferry. The length of our 5th wheel and truck when hooked up is 57’ nose to tail....and wondering how hard it would be to get on the ferry without a reservation. My husband’s concern was being in line, not getting on, and then having getting out of line....Re: Maine, Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec in 2019Thank you all for wonderful campground and attraction suggestions. The NS-PEI ferry sounds interesting. When I was about 7 (many, many....many moons ago) we visited PEI and the ferry was the only way to get there. I remember my dad taking me down to where cars, etc were...even train cars! It would be a “blast from the past” for me.....Re: Norfolk VA to Bar Harbor MEWe used to live in CT and travel to NE from NC often...our daughter used to live in Waterville ME. We, too, have a 40’ 5th wheel. I suggest you get to I-81...no tolls which are expensive for anything above 7’6”! We pick up I- 78 in Harrisburg..some tolls on 78 but we want to avoid Scranton (terrible roads!). Then I-287 to I-87 to I-84 in Newburgh, NY. Some of these are toll roads but a smoother route. I-84 in CT can be slow going through Danbury and Waterbury...but once you get across the CT River it will go pretty quick on up to I-90 (Mass Pike). You can then either take I-290 through Worcester MA to I-495 to I-95 (at MA/NH border) or stay on I-90 to I-495 to I-95...you MUST have an EZPass for I-90/Mass Pike as it is now a cashless toll road. We take I-295 through Portland ME. I would follow what previous posters say about getting from I-95 to Bar Harbor....Re: RV park near Middletown CTWe have stayed at Bear Creek Campground the past 2 summers. We have a 40’ 5th wheel and had no problem with sites. Yes, it is a fairly new park (this might be their 5th season). The RV sites are W/E only but the restrooms/showers are very nice and clean. There is a shuttle from campground to amusement park and I think they might offer a discount in tickets...but I’m not sure on that. We used to live in Bristol and stayed at campground to be close to family and friends. We went to the amusement park many times while living there...I think your teenagers will enjoy it.Maine, Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec in 2019My husband will be retiring at the end of this year. We are planning our first retirement trip next summer to Maine (Acadia NP and possibly near Baxter SP), Nova Scotia, PEI, and Quebec. We have a 40’ 5th wheel with 3 slides and a Chevy 3500 diesel longbed truck...we take up a lot of room! I am looking for suggestions on campgrounds that can accommodate us...specifically near Baxter (Medway?), Nova Scotia, PEI, and Quebec. We have been to Acadia many times, but would welcome others thoughts on campgrounds there. Also, I would welcome any suggestions on places to see in these areas and along the way...we don’t have a timeframe...just want to see what is there.... Thank you...Re: toll plaza selection on I-95 - MD to PAOur EZPass is registered in Massachusetts....when we got our 5th wheel, we had to get 2 transponders...one when just traveling with truck, and the 2nd when traveling with 5th wheel....their rules....Re: Do You Keep an RVing Log or Diary?Yes! Started back in 2001 when we went out west with our kids and my dad, just after my mom passed...I recorded mileage, gas prices, where we stopped, and my dad’s comments....priceless! Have continued over the years since then.
