Anyways here I go, Dr650 dual sport motorcycle 320 lbs, some fire wood, necessities in the camper 300 lbs(Yes 300 lbs because I have weighed it), 1 person 220 lbs, and my lucky rubber ducky. Not going to tell you where I'm going and not telling my favorite fishing spot either. I will say most trips are within 30 mi of home. I have a 2020 RAM 1500 with a payload of 1559 (sticker in door) and a max towing of 11,450 (entered vin on Ramtrucks.com) I like the Jayco Octane SL 222, but it has a hitch weignt of almost 800 lbs. Sold the Cummins for my current truck because I really liked the truck and though the TT days were behind me. Well I was able to find a WD hitch and go get the camper. The owner failed to mention there was severe dry rot on all 4 tires, so I left it there and drove back home empty handed. Not the first time I've driven long distances to see a vehicle misrepresented. This is exactly why I purchased all of my previous campers new. I have a 2020 Ram 1500 with a max towing of 11,447 lbs and I'm looking to tow a 25ft toy hauler with a hitch weight of 790lbs and overall weight of 5,100 lbs. I found the camper about 125 mi away and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. I didn't have a chance to pick up a WD hitch yet and I'm planning on towing the unit back tomorrow without one. I know it won't be fun and my truck will be squatting a good bit. Would loading a motorcycle in the trailer help with the tongue weight? Jerry Yea, I balk at that all day long. 1200 lbs in that Ram and you will hardly notice the load. 1200 lbs in the escape and you will know you are loaded heavy. My lightbulb moment came when I commented on here about a 3/4 ton MegaCab 4x4 Cummins only having 1800 lbs of payload. Someone commented that 1800 lbs in the bed wouldn’t even make it squat, despite what the silly sticker says. Just my opinion based on experience. Thanks! Jeremiah This might be for another thread, but here it goes. I went from an '06 Duramax with a payload of 2200 lbs to a 2016 Cummins with a 2000 lb payload. I towed the same fifth wheel with both and the Ram (with the lower payload) towed much more stable than the Duramax.
