I'm from NJ but vacationing in Colorado, Outside of Leadville,Co in a national forest CG and its a 100% service free- not even water.. and were loving it.. Last yr I added a Chins Lithium 200hr battery with a 2500w PSW inverter to operate hi load items( coffee pot, hair dryer and as of now our sm space heater -for above 9,000' our furnace wont cycle right and this morning its 45*outside and woke to 62*inside, so we made coffee and plugged in my heater an hour ago... Since the Chins worked so well I decided and so glad I did, that just before we left I had added a Power Queen 100ah battery in the front frame to run the whole RV's 12v system. To keep them charged we have solar.. We bought along our Gen, but it sits in back of the Truck. So far we havent used it yet in our 18th day of travel.. You hear of spending Thousands to have a Lithium system, but no its not. a 100ah lithium batt. 320$,100w panel 68$-controller 36$, wire and terminal ends I had.. I bought through amazon and on sale plus my time 425$ we spent. Note the 200hr chins/Inverter is a separate setup stored under the bed for our Hi-load needs- as a experiment to learn by.. In the winter the Batteries comes home and rest till spring.. Remember keep it simple and it will work..Re: A different Toy Hauler...I like your RV pkg, it works well and very flexible for what ever you might take along for the trip, plus space for the campsite furniture.. One question do you find any short comings with your setup on a vacation where multiple stops are planned?Re: Rte 2 Across Vermont, New Hampshire into MaineRt2 is a great road to travel on weather a car, MC, RV or even a large truck for the drive takes you across VT, NH and Maine. There will be a few steep hills but nothing really going up or down to be worried about. Also keep you phone ready for some great photos to take along the way. But cell service is sporadic along the way, dead zones..Re: Swarms of moths inside RVThat happen to us on a trip from NJ to the Grand Tetons/YellowStone, We did a layover in Iowa for 4days and on the 1st night around 10pm I feel something fluttering on my face..It was moths that had hatched out of their cocoons... Using a flashlight I found they were coming out of the AC roof vents, This lasted 3 nights,I had to dispose of about 5 to 10 moths a night.. See Our 5th wheel had roof vents and most likely hatched from there and coming in This was on our 2017 trip....Re: Dometic Freezer working, fridge Not coolinggo to this site for some great info on cooling unit replacement directions https://coolfunrv.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Dometic-Older-style-units-coolfun.pdf helps you understand how the cooling works on the frig, for freezer and frig both get cold at the same time .. when I had the unit in my RV it would take hours for the frig to cool about 12hrs for noticeable difference.. let it run over night and ck it in the morningRe: Generators for 5erI put a 5k Gen in our front cargo space and also ran a fuel line with a marine outboard fuel connector down and out the front part of the front cargo space, I bought a 7gal portable marine fuel tank and between the tank connector and the Gen fuel connector I made a 6' fuel line with the female ends.... So weather driving or stationary I could run the Gen and AC units....This would cooldown the RV when we pulled into or camp site, especially nice in HHH weather..A 5k Gen could run both AC units with no problem...Re: Love my Fithwheel but looking for more...when out on a 6 to 8 week trip I just love the room inside the 5th wheel and all of the outside gear we can take along, but boy I would love to do some Lake side or even being next to a river for a few days.So I gave it a try 2yrs ago in VT alone in a small tent with a blowup air matress, which had a leak during the night and temps drop to 46* that night....at 60yrs old with a fused lower back..I lasted that one night..Never again, thats the draw to a PU camper.. ...Thanks for your input with a PU camperLove my Fithwheel but looking for more...In my 16+ yrs of RVing 15 of them has been in a 5er with about 68,000 miles of traveling distance.. So its here I'm raising a question about a more intimate way of RVing in a smaller RV..Ive been thinking of 2 types, 1st a PU Camper with a small cargo trailer for my MC or a small TH about 26' in length...See My wife and I love our 5er but on our last big trip camping along the Rockies from Grand Tetons up into Canada along the Ice Fields Pkway up to Jasper...Wow what a trip..We spent most of the trip in State or National parks camping. Which are smaller in size and have no utilities (for 1-3nights is cool, unless its Hot)..Now were interested in doing more parks but finding a 38' or more site is difficult but plenty of 28 to 32' sites and the roads in some of the CG are Tight...Has any tried a downsized RV or a PU camper and your thoughts? one of mine is the space for my Recliner!!Re: Generator questioni did the same thing 14yrs ago for the same reason but we also traveled with 2dogs, and to also dry-campe very now and then...so I installed a 5,000w Generic PrimPac..works great to operate 2 ac units plus the microwave...I belive going 5k and about you'll have no problem....Re: Mother of Invention Toy HaulerI love creativity thinking outside the norm..
