It was great! I was interested in the ferry so we drove to the nearby terminal one day and spoke to the the agent on duty. She was so very helpful. I had no prior reservations. She put together a really neat trip for us, a 34 foot class A coach and a saturn toad. One segment to Juneau with a three day stay. The fast ferry to Sitka with four day stay and a overnight trip to Ketchikan with another four day visit. The final leg was a quick trip to prince Rupert, BC. We had our dog with us and he was required to stay in the coach on the car deck. It was not really a problem and during the overnight trip out of Sitka, when the ferry was stopped at Petersburg and Wrangell we could take the dog off the ship for a walk. I learned a lot about following directions when driving onto and off the ship as well as backing my rv long distances in the car deck. The employees of the AK ferries are great and the four ferries that we took sailing south through the inside passage was high point of our journey to Canada and Alaska.Re: Best route to view of Florida EvergladesSome real good advise here, especially concerning Robert if Here! We lived near that locally owned place for nearly 30 years. Now, they are not cheap, but the store has some of the best fruits and vegetables both domestic and tropical anywhere. The shakes are not bad either!Re: Destruction Bay to AK Border Construction Progress?Great pic Sue! Yes, Haines is really nice. On our last trip to Canada and Alaska, we drove to Haines and liked it so much that we were able to get a spot for 7 days at the Oceanside CG. The sites are tight back ins but they all face the water and the view is outstanding. From there, we took the Alaska Ferry system to Prince Rupert, BC with intermediate stopovers at Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan. Outstanding journey.Re: NASCAR race questionWe camped many times in a campground within walking distance of Bristol and never had a problem. Lots of parties at night, but all in good fun. Bristol does not have an infield for parking RV's. Charlotte and Atlanta are OK as well. I've never been to Darlington. As to the north and south, well it does not make any difference. What drivers t shirt that your wearing is another matter.Re: Shreveport to Rapid City, SDAs you prefer 4 lane highways, what Jerry advised would be what I would also suggest. We go to Rapid City and the Black Hills often and have used that route either coming or going several times. I would like to make you aware that the Sturgis motorcycle rally is held this year the first week or so of August. The 3rd to 9th I believe. It is always a big event but this year they will be celebrating the 75th anniversary and the area will be more crowded than usual. Without reservations, it will be difficult to find a campground to stay at.Re: F53 steering damper, recommendationI just installed a Safe-T-plus in my 2012 F-53 on a 22000 k chassis. Bought the thing from Henderson's Line-Up located in Grants Pass, Oregon. It is very reliable and easy to install. Nice folks out there in Oregon, give them a call.Re: A new home for the big beast (and us)Nice!Re: Sunpass questionsIt's all a question of what kind of roads you want to drive in South Florida? The Florida Turnpike is expensive, especially if you do not have a Sunpass, but for $5.00 you can get a mini! The turnpike is an easier drive than I-95 and when you get on the Homestead Extension it is even easier. I realize that the road widening project in Broward and Miami Dade counties has been completed, but even after or before rush hour, traffic flow can be difficult for an RV. True, I-95 is free, but there are two tolls on SR 836, one on the Don Shula Expressway (SR874) and another one on the turnpike (SR821), so your going to pay tolls anyway, just not as many. When were return to South Florida, I pay the price to stay off I-95 and enjoy the ride. Just my 2 cents!Re: Tiffin 34TGA washer/dryer?The Allegro Open Road 36LA offers a Washer/drier combo in the gas line of coaches. They do however, offer washer and drier units in all the Allegro RED lines, starting at the 33AA. I own a 2012 34TGA and I don't believe that it would be possible to take out the sink and replace it with a stack washer and drier because the hot water heater is located under the sink.Re: Ferry to Kodiak IslandI've never been to Kodiak Island but here's a little story about the place. I'm a retired Coast Guardsman and when we were driving northbound on the Alaska Highway in 2009, during the early part of June, we camped at a bunch of places along the way. At several of the campgrounds we ran into Coast Guard families who were relocating to assignments in the lower 48. Each one of the military members as well as their wives, were not happy at having to leave the USCG Station on Kodiak. It is a great place to live and families, children included, generally like it there. One guy was going to Los Angeles and was none to happy. Funny thing though, my son-in-law is an active duty Coast Guard officer and is now assigned to Sector Long Beach. Strange things happen!
