Like I said I have been told by Direct reps more than once that the GenieII requires a wifi connection to work. If that is wrong, then more than one Direct tech is wrong I guess. .Re: Stand-alone GPS or smartphone?Stand alone, or more correctly a dash mounted portable works everywhere. A smart phone only works when you have cell service. A portable, at least the right models can be customized for your vehicle. A cell based cannot. For me its a no brainer.Re: In-dash Navigation / Radio Options in a Class CNot well at all. Sat radio for sure needs a clear view of the southern sky. Here in the PNW when I get into the mountains trees block my signal. GPS is a bit better as it looks at several satelites at a time. Downside of built in GPS is your forced to buy updates via DVD/CD whereas if you use a portable like a Garmin updates are free.Re: Direct TV Genie System Shot-N-Az wrote: donn0128 wrote: Which Genie? If you got a HR44 or HR54 your good to go. If you got a GenieII your screwed. I’m sitting in my motorhome watching news on my genie II as I type this. How am I screwed? As I understand from Directv the GenieII needs a wifi connection full time. I assume you have it connected to wifi?Re: New Trailer traveler - light weight, singleThe big issue with light weight trailers is, there light for a reason. Small holding tanks, lack of storage, poor insulation etc. Can it be done? Sure. There are several youtube videos from people doing it. But it seems these people are minimalists to begin with. Personally I like my creature comforts, like heat, light, and ample refer space to have more than two days worth of food. I really hate grocery shopping. As far as the rest? Buy a boot and a hitch lock. Expect fuel economy half what you get now. That basically holds true whether your pulling a 3000 or a 10,000 trailerRe: AIRSTREAM - what makes them so expensive?Rivited polished aluminum costs money.Re: traveling Portland to CaliforniaTotally. I have pulled my 36 foot fiver over it with ease. There is o ly a short stretch across a bridge and down a canyon that is the least bit narrow. Be sure to plan a stop at the elk viewing area.Re: traveling Portland to California 1SG wrote: I would travel south on I-5 to OR hwy 38. Go west on Hwy 38 to Reedsport and Hwy 101. This is one of the best routes to the coast from I5. 38 is about 30 miles south of Eugene so well before you get into the mountains.Re: Buying 1st Travel Trailer Go Large or Not?Good luck attempting to tow that monster. Even with a 3500 36 feet behind it would not be a good fit.Re: Setting Up Tow Vehicle w/hitch, EtcSadly with the mega cab configuration you end up with a short short bed. Once you get past the weight issues trying to find a hitch that might work could be a choir. The 3500 mega realisticslly has the load capacity of a quad 2500. Picking carefully a mega can be a good tow vehicle.
