I may be confused but if all 2.9 million posts and replies have migrated from the old site why can't I access any of the trip reports from the Truck Camper sub-group? The old sticky is there with post listings but when you click on any of the old links it kicks you out to the "Groups" page. This is at least better than it was a few weeks ago when doing this resulted in "404 - Error Page Not Found" but if the content still exists you can't get there from here. And speaking of stickys is there no way to organize posts in a similar fashion as before? It seems like if you are looking for something that was addressed many times it was good to have a general info sticky, a trip report sticky, a newbie sticky, etc. I agree the format looks slick and I'm sure the platform is more stable but much seems to have been lost in translation. JMHO Re: It only takes a second....Here she is at the tow yard.... The passenger side did not suffer as much but the truck bed is crunched near the cab. You can see near the rear where the other vehicle hit me to initiate the slide. Incidentally I believe (no concrete evidence of course) that the camper actually kept the truck from rolling over completely - more surface area to overcome the momentum of the vehicle as it hit the softer sand on the shoulder.Re: It only takes a second....O.K., it looks like the point I'm trying to make here is somehow not getting through. Sometimes, though, a driver can anticipate other drivers' bad behavior I am an EXCELLENT driver, with a spotless record over 40 years of operating a motor vehicle. I also live by the strategy of being a defensive driver; I've often said I'm not worried about me - it's the other guy who scares me. What I am trying to communicate here is that it does not matter how you drive, whether you are on your guard or not, sometimes people will make poor choices that will hurt others. It is that simple. End of story. Period.Re: It only takes a second....Many thanks for your kind thoughts and sympathy. It will take time but I'll find a way back. Now this guy on the other hand.... jimh425 wrote: Sorry that you were in a wreck, but also think about what you "possibly" did to contribute. If both the car behind you and a few cars back were trying to risky maneuvers to get around you, you might want to rethink how you are driving. I know I'm going to get it for this one, but as someone who's been stuck behind a "speed limit" driver who's being "safe", I feel I have to point out what's obvious. If you are truly not in a hurry, also try pulling over from time to time to let others pass safely. First of all your total lack of empathy is almost as appalling as your failure to grasp the obvious. The ONLY thing I could have done to avoid this accident was stay home. The posted speed limit for this stretch of highway is 65 miles per hour, which should be fine for most reasonable people. Pulling over to let others pass is certainly appropriate when you're lugging a hill or driving well below the posted speed, but to do so every time some leadfoot gets impatient is utterly ridiculous. It only takes a second....Hey all, Been a long while since I posted, mostly because I haven't had much new to say or offer. But I'm going to make one last post to offer a cautionary tale of how things can change suddenly and dramatically all through no fault of ones own. I was returning home from a trip to Colorado last Saturday, driving along U.S. Highway 160. At the time I was just cruising along, doing the speed limit and observing all of the rules of the road. As most people know, driving the speed limit is never enough for others with whom we share the highway, so I am constantly being passed by other vehicles with some frequency. Right after 12:00 noon, a car began to pass me on a straight and level 2 lane section of the highway. What the driver of this car did not realize until it was too late was that the vehicle behind it had also decided to pass. 3 cars going the same direction cannot occupy the same space on a 2 lane road, and when the driver in the middle saw what was happening she swerved violently in my direction, hitting my truck with enough force to spin me around. I slid across both lanes and onto the shoulder, where soft sand caused me to roll onto the passenger side. Fortunately, despite the speed and force of the crash I suffered no discernible injury. I cannot say the same for the truck and camper. I don't know for certain that the truck is totaled, but I suspect it will be more expensive to repair than what the insurance company is willing to pay. The camper is unquestionably destroyed, and that loss will be harder to calculate. I am now in the unenviable position of trying to get the at fault driver's insurance to admit their liability and assess the cost. Whatever I might receive in money cannot replace what has been lost, and I am understandably upset at being forced into a situation in which I had no choice or chance to avoid. Yes, I know it could have been worse, and I'm grateful to be alive. But in a very real sense I am experiencing almost as much pain and suffering as if I had been injured. In any event, I would never wish this on anyone else, but know for a certainty that you can do everything right, make no mistakes, pay your bills on time, have a clean conscience, and do all in your power to live a good life - it doesn't matter. Some idiot can still take it all away from you.Re: My trip over the Lolo TrailThat country is amazingly big, and it sure looks like a fella could get lost pretty darn easy. And the burned areas are indeed sad, but at least you can see some recovery of vegetation - maybe another generation or two and the forest may rise again. Thanks for sharing your rediscovery of the Lewis and Clark expedition.Re: BFG Rugged Terrains?Don't overlook the Cooper Discoverer AT3. My F250 came stock with the BFG Rugged Trail (absolute garbage in snow/ice) and I could not wait to replace them - Got the AT3s last year. Have used Coopers in the past with very good results. I have 17" rims, but the tires I have now are load range E. On edit - looks like you made a good choice. I'm sure you'll be happy with the Coopers. Of course as you mentioned not every one who reviews a tire carries a camper, and a lot of how you like the product will depend on what kind of driving conditions you encounter. As for me I am very happy with the AT3, and I do use my truck/camper in a wide variety of road environments.Re: Trip report: Dolomite Mountains (and 5 other countries)Steve, Just finished reading your "opus magnum" and have to compliment you in the most strenuous of terms. The time and effort you put into the report as well as the amount of ground covered is simply brilliant. The homework involved in taking a trip across the continent makes my trip preparations pale by comparison, especially in terms of simply finding a suitable place to camp. The mountains are stunning, the greenery is lush, and the history is intriguing. What more could anyone ask for? Thanks for taking the time to enjoy yourself, and then thank you again for documenting it. EricRe: Great OX5 article-TC Magazine by D GortonD, Since you were taking the picture you can be forgiven for your mistaken information. I was merely explaining to the group how impressed I was with the new submersible TC units I had just seen being run through their paces on the "overland/underwater" course. The three headed snake was merely incidental to the story, as I had spotted it wrapped around the naked man's torso just before reaching the test track. And BTW, I was so distracted by the spectacle I did not get a good ID on the birthday suit wearing fella - it could've been Bryan or Dave, but I was trying not to look too closely. I just wanted to set the record straight. EricRe: Great OX5 article-TC Magazine by D GortonI would also like to commend D (67Avion) for what has to be the best article to grace the screen on TCM so far. His writing and photojournalism is surely testament to his long and distinguished career, and I really enjoyed the comprehensive look at OX. I've been there twice and my focus was on the TC community each time, but in the future I will spend more time seeing the "forest" for the trees. D - Great job. Maybe Gordon and Angela should send you out on assignment more often. Eric
