The aftermarket cooler was not enough. With both coolers installed I have never seen temperatures above 185 degrees, previously I had seen up to 220 degrees. I also did some mods to the trans while I did my engine mods, I installed a billet torque converter, and a transgo towing shift kit. Don't know if that helped with the temperature but it sure improved the shifting and off the line torque, much easier to get it going from a start.Re: F650 as 5th wheel tow vehicle.Lightning Driver, I would keep the 7.3 and do some power mods. I have a 99 7.3 and am towing a 40ft 14k trailer and do it with ease. I used a HFSB turbo kit from DP Tuner along with injectors, upgraded high pressure oil pump and a tuner with multiple settings. I also added a 4" turbo back exhaust, and improved the fuel system with new high pressure injector lines, air intake and other minor parts. It changes the truck dramatically, I can pull just about any grade at 60mph and exhaust temps under 1200 easily passing just about anyone I want anytime I want. I spent probably a total of 5k on the mods and it is extremely reliable. Towing I use 3 different tunes 20/40/60 hp depending on terrain and weight I am hauling to help keep exhaust temps down. Non towing I mostly use a modified stock tune and it drives like a gas powered truck I have to watch my lead foot as i find myself chirping the tires in 2nd and 3rd gear. I looked into all three major brands of new trucks and was thoroughly disappointed with the power and torque when I drove them. I am so happy I did not buy a new truck. Oh and I am towing with at 3.73 rear gear. SteveRe: Towing with a Powerstroke 7.3L (expectation/realistic)Unsubscribing from this topic. It is so far off the original topic and not of interest. People need to learn7-to open new one. Thanks for wasting my time.Re: Towing with a Powerstroke 7.3L (expectation/realistic)I read this topic and really feel the need to comment on my experience. I have a 99 F250 SRW 7.3 with 3.73 gears. I would really love to purchase a new truck but if I did that I wouldn't have an rv. I decided to upgrade my truck as it needed work anyway. I upgraded the suspension with 4400lb springs in the rear, bilstein shocks, upgraded brakes and tires. Transmission upgraded with converter and valve body. Engine upgraded with stage 2 injectors, HFSB Turbo, hp oil pump, 4"turboback exhaust, custom intake using BAAF filter, fuel line0 upgrades from Riff Raff diesel and Tuning from DP tuner. The truck runs phenomenal. Even with a modified stock tune. My 5th wheel is a 40' 13,330lb empty. I have towed it probably about 8000 miles now with absolutely no issues. I have several tunes that I use for towing mainly 20 and 40 hp tow. I can maintain any speed limit i have run into and routinely am passing big rigs going up the hills all with exhaust temps in spec. On the rare occasion I get caught behind someone and cannot accelerate early I may have to drop the trans out of OD. Last year I looked at new trucks again but after test driving them I was completely disappointed. They (all 3 brands) all seemed to lack the power of my truck. I am satisfied with what I have and to top it off I spent less that 10k for everything instead of 60k+.Re: Backup Camera????I purchased my cameras from rearviewsafety.com. I have a 40ft fifth and the wireless didn't work very well, their customer service was great. They shipped me a separate antenna for free which helped but not enough, I purchased a high quality extension cable through amazon and now the antenna is by the front cap, problem solved. I also have side cameras which really help especially on freeway lane changes and backing up. They are mounted just in front of the propane doors and transmitters inside by the tanks. Great signal on those cameras. Steve-Re: Towing a 13,500 dry weight 5er?Can you tow with a F-250, yes you can easily. Should you? Not with it stock. I tow a 40 ft fifth wheel that weighs 13362-empty. I have had the truck a number of years and could not part with it. It has extensive suspension mods, springs, tires, brakes. shocks on top of engine and transmission improvements. I would love to have a dually for the stability but my finances won't allow it at this time. I have towed my trailer on at least three 2000 mile round trips with absolutely no issues. When hooking up my trailer the truck only drops 1 inch. I have test driven all the big three's dually's and I like the stability but very disappointed with the power and torque of them. I may in the future convert my truck to a dually and avoid having another mortgage. SteveRe: Any Mountaineer 347THT Owners?I have been following this posting with great interest as I really like the layout of the 347THT. I have an Ultra Classic and can see that it fits with no problem. My question to all of you, is there enough room to squeeze a smaller bike in the space next to it? Something along the lines of a sportster or Dyna? Maybe leaving the door in the open position? Just trying to see if it is possible in case my other half finally takes me up on the offer to get own bike. I don't want to have to go buy another trailer in a year.
