Re: WEIGHT QUESTION for GMC 2500
I have an 08 GMC 2500 and tow a 38 ft. 4 slide 5th wheel.if I max out the load on the camper I would be over the advertised rating. But as used I`m just under. as for as wearing out items like brakes, axles,bearings and frame,these parts are shared between the 2500 and 3500 minus a couple of tires and springs on the rear. as for the original post i would have to say that 5ver is too large for that truck.a 3950 will probably measure around 42 ft. and about 1500-1800 over weight. as for pulling it the truck will do it, but without any margin.I have weighed mine and am just under on the rear and when loaded the front axle actually losses about 80 lbs compared to the weight of the truck minus the camper.555Views0likes0CommentsRe: So all of you 1500 haters
think I read somewhere that in 2017 1/2 ton trucks would have no towing capacity, so if You would like to tow You must buy a 2500-3500 and it must be a diesel. also new federal regulations removing tow hitches from any 1/2 ton less that 2 years old. what do You think ?569Views0likes0CommentsRe: Issues with 8.1 Vortex with Allison Transmission
first Ive heard of one getting better than 10 mpg with 4.10 gears. had an 03 with 4.10s would get 8.5 pulling Our old 5vr and 9.9 empty with a tail wind. was a beast and would pass anything but a gas station.replaced a ball joint and fuel pump, also worn out gas cap.600Views0likes0CommentsRe: another tire story
Bought the BFGs from sams club with a 5 year road hazard/replacement warranty.they are made by Michelin and in the U.S. I weighed the unit was actually 12200lbs, 9600 on the axles empty.the kitchen,water tanks and storage compartments are foward so most weight will be added towards pin weight.and as for the rating on the tires,I have read how they are tested and would trust a properly inflated and overloaded LT tire before I will trust an ST tire at anytime. From the title I attached to this thread,I have read many instances of blow outs on foreign made ST tires and very few failures of LT replacement tires,overloaded or not.350Views0likes0Commentsanother tire story
Our Keystone Avalanche will be 2 years old to Us in July but the towmax china bomb tires celibrated a 3rd birthday in febuary.anyway I have always kept air pressure in check and have only towed about 1000 miles.on the way to last outing, on a two lane road at 60 mph I here a load pop and see tire smoke at the left rear.The tire tread had partially seperated and tire explosion had occured.Ireally expected this but maybe another year or two down the road.had minimal damage and am replacing with BFGOODRICH commercial TAs they should be passed the recall issues by now and or made in the USA.3.7KViews0likes11Comments
