It'll be a long ride from New Jersey to take delivery so I'm waiting 'til Late April/early May 2015 to pick it up. I'll then make a leisurely tour home stopping at campgrounds learning how to handle the trailer and the black water hookup. I'm a noobie and will probably provide some campers with a few chuckles on my way. Note to NYCGrrl: the trip from northern NJ to the Scamp factory in Minnesota is about 1450 miles each way. Casita is in Texas and Escape in BC Canada. We don't see these trailers at RV shows here in the NJ/NY area. I bought mine sight unseen relying on the opinions I gleaned on the forums. Good luck. See you out there. You won't miss me. I'll be the guy the very large white rubber gloves trying to stuff the drain hose back into the storage tube :)Re: Need help selecting new Travel TrailerI keep returning to the Escape for consideration. One thing that discourages it, Vermilye, is driving across country from New Jersey to hook up. I like the sleekness and apparent solid construction of the trailer. As xteacher mentioned the wind drag of the wider trailers is an important item. We're having an RV show here in downstate New York next week. Too bad those great products don't seem ,IMHO, to make it to the East Coast. This forum has been a wealth of information. Thank you, all!Re: Need help selecting new Travel Trailer coolbreeze01 wrote: Out West I see people camp out of their 4-Runners. Car trip-it out here and buy the trailer you want :C That's a serious thought, coolbreeze01. My hope is to camp my way out to the San Francisco Bay area by mid May to visit my kids and new grand daughter. Rates for RV sites are out of sight out there!Re: Need help selecting new Travel Trailer fx2tom wrote: Hows your Toyota's resale value doing? You may want to look at replacing it with a truck with a little more capability if you plan on doing much travelling. Beyond the "tow capacity" you have to look at tongue weight and payload. I know some models of 4Runners don't even allow for a Weight Distribution Hitch. Something to consider. My 4RUNNER is new with only 5000 miles on it. Trading it in would be a painful loss. As can be seen on this thread alone, the choices are overwhelming. I will be full timing. I imagine the Casita or Scamp would be claustrophobic. I got a very good price on a 2015 Coleman CTS16QB. Two concerns. 1. Made by Dutchman. 2. So many nooks and crannies to develop leaks.Re: Need help selecting new Travel TrailerI've just 'double posted'. Sorry about that. Must be bedtimeRe: Need help selecting new Travel TrailerI've considered the Escape. It's a bit above my priceline and it seems there would be a considerable hassle in the logistics bringing it into the states for me to take possession and title. I've taken a serious look at the Coleman CTS16QB. Can anyone volunteer an opinion on that TT? The frustrating thing here in New Joisey is that RV dealers who represent the various brands apparently give most attention to the larger models. Their inventory of TT's is generally limited.Re: Need help selecting new Travel TrailerThanks everyone for the informative responses. When I bought the Toyota 4runner with a 4700 lb towing capacity I thought I did right. I thought it would easily handle a TT for my needs. It's really compromising my choices! The Escape was a unit I'd considered since I would take possession in Washington State and head south to visit my kids in San Francisco. I've taken a serious look at the Coleman Expedition CTS16QB. Would anyone venture an opinion on that? Tomorrow I'm running up to northwest NJ to, hopefully, inspect the R Pod and Flagstaff Mini. Thanks again, all for your advice.Re: Need help selecting new Travel TrailerThanks for your response djgarcia. The issue here in NJ is as you suggest. I will have to shop out west for the TT I'm looking for. I haven't received a response as yet, after three days, from either Scamp or Casita. Perhaps I'm too anxious. I am so confident in the quality of those trailers, I would be willing to drive out to Backus, MN (Scamp) or Rice, TX (Casita) and hook 'er up and tow 'er away.Need help selecting new Travel TrailerI'm about to spend my retirement traveling around the USA in a TT. I want it to be brand spanking new. I'm confounded by the lack of brand selection here in the New Jersey/New York area. It seems all I can find are Heartlands and Colemans. Neither impress me. My Toyota 4runner is rated to tow 4700 lbs. I will be traveling solo. I cannot afford an Airstream. I've not received responses from Casita or Scamp. Why are the most alluring TT's built way the heck out west ? Thanks to anyone who can advise me.Re: Need some travel trailer suggestions... d_eggman2 wrote: We have a Coleman ct192rd bought it 2 years ago so far we love it. http://coleman-rv.com/floorplan/CTS192RD Thanks for your post on the Coleman. That's one I haven't looked into. I'll check it out. The three water tanks are very large. Do you travel with them full, or near full? If so do they affect the trailer's behaviour on the road?
