Just wondering if there is any possible way I could screw up this 15 minute job! My wife tells me I can make a 15 minute job an all day affair! A typical project summary for me: (1. Plan 2. Go to Lowes 3. Take apart. 4. Realize I bought the wrong thing. 5. Back to Lowes 6. Go back to step 1 and repeat) It means go ahead and change your outlet, wiring the new one same way as old. Should be no problemsRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Yes I read about grounding on page 41 of these posts. I think I understand the floating ground issue. However a normal 120 V outlet has the neutral side connected to the same ground as the ground pin. we don't have that with these generators. Of course when you switch to 240 V operation then you would not want that condition as both legs then need to float. So I'm just interested in knowing if both sides of the 120 floating above ground is ok? Doesn't sit right with me. Of course in 120 V mode I could always make an adapter to ground the neutral side. If you don't purposely ground the frame to a good earth ground is it better to let both legs of the 120 V float or what?Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I changed out the 120 V receptacle in my ELIM3000 the other day to use a more rugged unit as many here have done. I noticed when doing that the ground wire is connected to the frame of the generator. When I completed the swap out I started the generator and plugged in my line tester (you know the $3 units with 3 neon bulbs). It said I have an open ground. Obviously one side of the generator output is not grounded. Is it supposed to be like that? How would a GFCI breaker work in this situation? Are all generators wired like this?Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I've had my ELIM3000 for about 3 wks now, testing it off and on. Very pleased with it so far, but agree the 120V duplex outlet needs to be upgraded. I see on pg 113 of May Trailer Life another one of these Chinese knockoffs. Picture not in color so can't tell too much about it. It is a bit pricey at $489. Looks similiar to the models discussed here.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Just want to say thankyou to the professor who obviously spent much time researching this subject. Also thanks to everyone else who provided information. This is a great forum! For anyone close to the Dayton Oh area there are 3 Pepboys stores here and they all appear to stock the ELIM3000 at $279. Probably several stores in Columbus area also.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Well I've been reading these posts for two days. I figured what little boondocking we are likely to do I had to try one of these Elim3000 units. Called closest of the 3 Pepboys in Dayton area and they had 2 units in stock at $279 no rebate. So I hotfooted down and picked up a unit. Runs the 15k A/C in the 5ver just fine. Just for the heck of it while the A/C was running I plugged in a 1500W heater. The generator kept everything going although the voltage inside dropped to about 108V. Obviously that kind of load isn't to be kept on too long, but just shows how the generator didn't complain with over 3KW of load. I'm very impressed with this unit and it is much quieter than the 3500W contractor style I bought at TSC several years ago that will not run my A/C. I agree with whoever mentioned adding some baffling to quiet things down even more. I think that would not be too difficult. Just build it around the existing frame being carefull to allow plenty of air circulation. I do plan to add wheels to this thing. It's a bit much for a 64 yr old to haul around single handedly.
