Re: Good Sam Travel Assist: Anyone have a claim?
In November, 2009 I received a mailing concerning membership in Good Sam’s Emergency Evacuation Assistance Program. This program promised to get you home with your RV or get your family to your bedside in case of an illness. We were going to South Texas for our 13th winter and decided that this was a good idea to have this coverage, so we purchased it. Even though I was in good health, never been ill and had a complete physical before we left for the Valley in December, 2009, I suffered a “Brain Bleed Stroke” on January 30th, 2010. I spent 18 days in Weslaco’s Knapp Hospital and I was in no condition to drive our motorhome and Martha had never driven it. NO PROBLEM! We had Good Sam’s Insurance for this type of situation, RIGHT? We called Good Sam’s and they faxed us an 18 page questionnaire. WE RECEIVED NO HELP FROM THEM! I had to fly my daughter and her boyfriend to McAllen to drive us and the motorhome back to Paris, Texas. I had been a Good Sam’s Member as well as a Good Sam’s Roadside Assistance member for many years and trusted them fully. After all they were Good Sam’s. Who would have doubted them? After 2 months in physical therapy I took the matter to my Attorney, Bill Flanery. He contacted Good Sam’s and after speaking with them he informed me that I had “wasted my money” by joining this program. Just like life, Fulltiming means different things to different people. We have lived full time in our RV for the past 8 years and would NEVER-EVER own another house again if you gave us one. Is it cheaper-A RESOUNDING YES. Someone mentioned $ 900.00/ month for camping fees. All I can tell you is we have NEVER spent that much ever. Like most people the first year or two you may do a lot of travelling but after awhile it seems to settle down. Our first year it was East coast/West coast then Arizona for the winter. Back North for the summer then off to Florida for the winter. The past 6 years have been Texas in the winter and Ontario for the summer. Texas prices $900.00 for three months rent. Ontario $ 1950.00 for 6 months. Our relationships with our family and friends has intensified since they REALLY want to see you now and we have met a ton of great friend out here on the road. Nothing at all like living in a subdivision. Those that are not out here have no understanding of what it can be like or how inexpensive it can be. Try it for your family, you are still young enough to go back if it isn’t for you. Your children will make memories and friends they will never forget. Well said Wingtraveller, OCP has an evil agenda and has totally screwed up a good group that I belong to; ROD was started as a reputable camping group with high membership benefits. That has changed when OCP got involved; ROD changed the contract rules without a bit of concern for its members. We travel snowbird style. Travel south taking a month, then in the spring travel north taking a month. We were able to use our ROD (Platinum) membership and go from park to park during those months. Not now! We must be OUT of the system for 7 days after any 7 day stay. This has TOTALLY changed my opinion of membership camping and I will not recommend it to anyone. Stay away from these frauds. Just when you think you have something worthwhile and have invested thousands of dollars they change the rules and you are left with a worthless piece of paper. Anyone interested in an ROD membership? I am trying to break my contract and it all started when OCP bought into the group.2.3KViews0likes0Comments
