Didn't like the hassle of manual moving the hitch. Found a deal for 1/2 price on Airborne Sidewinder. Biggest mistake I made. The wedge would not hold tight and would pound out from being too thin in material thickness.. I made my own wedge out of much thicker material and used larger bolts to hold in place after adjusting the wedge tightness. Still towing it was like the tail wagging the dog with the pivot moved back 20 inches, especially in the tight curves through the mountains.. Finally went to a 15k Pullrite auto slider and it is the best move I did. My trailer is a Jazz 3300, 36" long, triple slide, 12,000+/- lbs. depending on how loaded.Re: short bed - sliding hitch vs sidewinder? When I bought my 5er it came with a manual slider, if there was any tension on the pins, it was difficult to relase the catches to slide it. I bought a SW/5AB and later switched to the pullrite auto slider. In my opionion the pull-rite tows much better then the SW, especially in the mountain curves. With the pivot moved back on the SW there was much more side torque felt in the rear of the PU. The wedge needs to be absolutly tight with no free play once hooked up. The factory wedge in my opinion was not built heavy enough. I finally built my own wedge that was thicker and longer to the rear to have more surface area in contact with the 5th wheel plate opening. Otherwise if there is any slop in the contact, even with less then 1/16" of an air gap I would get a sideways rocking/knock in the curves that could be felt as it hit from side to side. Having switched to the pullrite everything is much more solid and stable, and like the SW the movement for clearance on tight turns is automatic. Especially nice if pulling off the road to a parking lot or diesel station that is tight, and not worrying if you can make the turn without sliding. Won't go back to the SW. (If any one is set on getting one I will make a good deal)Re: Drought/Water Shortage bob213 wrote: Agriculture and industry use 80% of California's water without any restrictions. Homeowner's use the rest and are restricted in their use??? The amount you use while in CA will be the "drop in the bucket" we hear about. Come and enjoy. Ag does not use 80% of of stored water supply. That figure includes environmental water also, it has been highly misquoted by the media. These numbers come from the California Department of Water Resources: Enviromental demands take 50% of the water, ag 40% and urban use the remaining 10%. I farm and I get ZERO water this year (and last year also). Kind of hard to cut back more from a 0% allocation.Re: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. Have since added Firestone airbags just to level truck out when towing even though it did not sag to bad without. I carry even heavier hitch loads when towing gooseneck with farm equipment.
