Being on the east coast limits our exposure. Last I checked, the closest dealers were in PA and somewhere in Canada. Hard to make the time to look at a potential new 5th wheel when so much has to go into just getting to a dealer. But, we are intent on down-sizing a bit and that 27-5T is high on our list. Hope you have continued good fortune with your new AF.Re: Comparing Half Ton 5th Wheels mtofell1 wrote: Historically, Jayco owners seem to be a hair happier than owners of other large brands. Now that they are owned by Thor it's anyone's guess if that trend will continue. Also, don't get too caught up in brand shopping. Any and every manufacturer churns out good and terrible units. With a few keystrokes you can find absolute horror stories with all of them. The best advice from the seasoned folks on RV boards is to find the floor plan that suits you best and do a very thorough PDI (pre-delivery inspection). Also, expect that some things will come up and be ready to take the RV back to your dealer a time or two.... or three or four. Very well put. X2. The only thing I would add is, if you can find lightly used, 2-4 years old, it may save you trips back to the dealer. All the build-issues should be solved by now. Not to mention the price being easier to swallow.Re: Tiffen Fifth wheel VilanoI saw that 5er a few months back in Trailer Life. Quite impressive. Good luck with it, she's a beauty for sure.Re: Electric Awning CleaningIf climbing onto the roof isn't a problem for you, this is how I do it: get up there with a hose, a bucket of bleach and water (I go about 25/75), and an expandable brush from Home Depot. I rinse off the awning and then soak it with the bleach/water mixture (careful to keep off the roof) and roll it up. After 5-10 minutes, I open it up again and rinse the awning off. Sometimes 2 or 3 applications, but it comes out nice and clean. Then I go underneath and hit the spots with the brush that didn't come clean. It takes awhile, but I don't mind. Having a dirty awning, especially on the bottom, is something I notice all the time. This method is close to what is recommended by the awning manufacturer.Re: 6' vs 8' truck bedI had 2 short beds before this truck. Had it been available in short bed, I would have bought it. Now, 10 years later, I wouldn't want to have the short bed truck. It is definitely a no-brainer in my opinion if you're pulling a 5th wheel. The extra space is very useful. You can see what others do with the room. I either put firewood in there or an extra bicycle or 2 mounted sideways. You will use the space, for sure.Re: help deciding on which one billy1davis wrote: Show the salesman at outdoor RV that sell glacier Peak fifth wheels tells me that that is the only good fifth wheel to take to Alaska that that trip to Alaska would ruin any other fifth wheel so what fifth wheels have been to Alaska and back without problems If I understand you correctly, you're saying that the salesman told you Glacier Peak is the ONLY 5er that will survive a trip to Alaska?? What's he been smoking? There are a LOT of fifth wheels that can do that trip. Time for a new salesman, I'd say. If I misunderstood, please disregard my post:oRe: help deciding on which oneWell, the Presidential is the cream of that crop, but, 16 years is 16 years. Personally, I wouldn't buy an RV that old. The Montana sounds ok, if in good shape, but I think the price is a little high. If you can whittle it down a bit, that might be a good choice. As far as the Cougar, I'm no longer familiar with the line, but if it is entry level, it won't compare to the other 2 quality-wise. If you're not in a rush, keep looking. That is a wide range of fifth wheels you're considering. There are sure to be others out there. I looked for about 5 years. When you find the one, you'll know it. Good luck with your decision...Re: Possible frame weld broken on new MontanaThe more I read this stuff, the luckier I feel having gotten the rig we did. We bought it used, and it has held up well for 4 camping seasons. I'm not sure we will be looking to make a move anytime soon. Good luck to the OP. I have been following his story on the MOC, and hopefully he'll soon get the problems behind him.Re: In bed 7 pin connectorMine was installed right behind the wheelwell. Tough to reach from the tailgate and it's so tight plugging in that I can't get any leverage standing on the tire and leaning over the bedrail. So, I use the tire and climb in. Not my preference and, at 61, this technique is not a long term solution. Now that I know a little more about the process, I think I'll move it back far enough where it is accessible from the tailgate.Re: What brand/specs of wheels/tires on 2015 Montana 5ers?I could be wrong, but I think some of the Montanas come with GY G614's. I know you can request them as an upgrade. Most come with the E rated ST tires, which have not held up well, to say the least.
