Depends on the park and most likely done at a more off the beat area. As stated, you really can't go wrong with Passport as a couple nights pays for the membership. We also like public parks or boondocking the best and rarely use a RV park.Re: Yellowstone and Grand Tetons in JuneNot sure of your question. If you are there to tour the parks then drive every road there is in the parks. Each park is completely different. We enjoy the hiking in the Tetons and definitely take a easy float trip down the Snake River in the park and you just might see a moose in the water with you. We did! With our 40' motorhome we've stayed in Yellowstone at Mammoth, Madison and Bridge Bay campgrounds. In the Tetons we love Gros Ventre campground. Each national park has a wonderful web site giving things to do, campground info, maps, special alerts, road issues, etc. Study the site thoroughly. https://www.nps.gov/yell/index.htm https://www.nps.gov/grte/index.htmRe: OREGON STATE PARKS RANTTake this map and zoom in around Portland and you'll find many possibilities of camping within 50 miles. Test some out and you may find your new 'jewel' of a campground. http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/oregonRe: Election results are in and the winners are:Phone calls are bad enough but not they're resorting to texting.Re: Sleeping Bear DunesHere are temps this past May for Honor, Michigan (where Platte River campground is). Brrrr! Granted, each May will be different... you know how weather is. Can you move your trip to the first two weeks of June at least? https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/honor-mi/49640/month/2211144?monyr=5/01/2018 Explore this national lakeshore's web site for lots of good information, especially under the 'Things To Do' tab: https://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/basicinfo.htmRe: Looking for a teardrop for boondocking. This full-timing single young gal just bought a Hiker Trailer. I believe there are 3 posts about it on her blog. The first is when she ordered it so do a search on her blog. https://interstellarorchard.com/2018/10/19/teardrop-trailer-bathroom-and-kitchen-solutions/Re: Sleeping Bear DunesI just looked at your photos - very nice! I see you have a travel trailer. Why not take it on the trip?Re: Sleeping Bear DunesYou'll be missing out if you park and don't drive anywhere. The park is very large. Here is the map. Look at the 'Dune Climb' - that's the major dunes and it would be a long hike. Also, the 'Scenic Drive' is a must. May can be cold there. DHDay is a nice 'dry' campground but we love Platte River C.G. (mainly because we volunteered there for 9 seasons along with 3 season on South Manitou Island giving lighthouse tours). It's a very special place for us. The whole peninsula is gorgeous with neat little towns to poke around. You have to drive to experience it. https://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/upload/SLBEmap2015park_web.pdf https://www.nps.gov/slbe/index.htmRe: Ageing Snowbird Parks, Changing habits, preferences.I think the new snowbirders are more active so activities should be geared for them, also; such as, hiking, biking, pickleball. Play 70's music rather than 50's all the time.Re: Grand Canyon to ZionYou don't have to miss the drive through the park on Hwy 9. Park the RV and drive it with your truck. I also agree that since you said you have a 29' trailer you could even drive it with your RV. Get into low gear before you even begin a downhill; don't try to do it midway. Everyone will be driving slow in the tunnel section. You'll fit right in! If you're 62+ make sure you have the Senior Pass for all these parks. It will get in in free and 1/2 off camping. Here's some information on the tunnel area: https://www.nps.gov/zion/frequently-asked-questions-about-the-zion-mt-carmel-highway-and-tunnel.htm I also suggest you look at the wonderful 'nps' web sites for all the national parks. They give lots of good information including things to do, special park alerts, road construction, camping, etc. There are also many YouTube.com videos of special roads. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZmoVAfKaMg
