They will try to make it seem otherwise(that is the point). Stay away.Re: Stupid question about soft spot in floorA soft spot usually means it leaked somewhere and got wet. The leak needs located and repaired before you fix the floor. These kind of repairs get pricey. Stay away unless the price is well discounted(which it isn't).Re: V6 nissan frontierbefore my current truck and camper i had a v6 frontier also rated to pull 6100. i pulled a 21 foot hybrid trailer. it weighed around 3200lb dry. did ok. a little sluggish on hills, but not too bad. you should be ok with the weight, but that length is long for that truck. you will get a lot more sway and won't have much truckbase to counter it with. i would try to go with something a little shorter.Re: 2006 Escalade AWD (Base) towingthat might be a bit long and heavy for an escalade. that engine will pull it fine, but your vehicle will not do well with the length and weight when it comes to stopping and controlling the trailer. looking for a bunkhouse with dry weight less than 5000lbs and length no longer than 28-31 feet would serve you better.Re: Towing capacityunless you are thinking of a pop up the liberty isn't really a tow vehicle for campers. it is better suited towing a utility flat trailer etc. a camper will have too much sway for that small of a vehicle. a pop up or teardrop camper could work though if you are within your specs.Re: Best sealant/caulk for rubber roof? (2001 rig)i've used dicor self leveling and liked it. very easy to use.Re: Explorer Base V6 FWD - Anybody tow with this? You probably need to provide some specs here. How heavy is the trailer. What is the payload and tow rating on the explorer. My wife has the 4.0 v6 explorer. I don't tow with it, but think it could handle a hi lo less than 5000lbs loaded. Ours has the tow package and auxillary tranny cooler. you'll need it. I think it would pull a bit sluggish, but should be able to stop and handle that type of trailer.Re: To use or NOT to USE???we have always used rv paper, but i have always heard the best thing is to put a piece in water and see if it dissolves. if it dissolves it should be fine.Re: Is my Ford Escape worthless for fullfilling my dream? :-(what next to consider- sway and wind resistance. yes a flat wall trailer is gonna give you wind resistance while pulling it. a pretty good amt too. you will offset some of this by only towing 80% of your max tow weight. towing one of the smaller teardrop type trailers will help too. you will not have this with a pop up or hi-lo trailer. your vehicle will tow a pop up or hi lo trailer of the same weight much easier. sway? wind will hit the sides of the trailer too. and a big tractor trailer going past you on the freeway will give you sway too. bigger the surface area of the sides the more the sway. longer rv's get it worse. the tow vehicle has to have a long enough wheelbase to counter this effect and keep the trailer towing straight. shorter wheelbases cannot handle this as well resulting in situations where the trailer sways and if it gets bad enough the tow vehicle and rv can both end up on their sides. not common, but has happened. their are equations to figure out the exact length rv you should tow, but i don't know them. you are definitely gonna be coming in under 2o feet. maybe 12-16 is a ballpark. end result. your probably best suited with a pop up, hi-lo trailer, at most a teardrop trailer or really small rv with only one axle if you keep your current tow vehicle. if you want more comfort and amenities in the rv, trade in your tow vehicle for something more capable. pick your rv or type of rv before you would buy another vehicle to ensure that you get one that could tow what you are wanting it to tow. good luck.Re: Is my Ford Escape worthless for fullfilling my dream? :-(so how heavy of a trailer can i really tow? back to the door jam. gcvwr= gross combined vehicle weight rating-gvwr= trailer weight you can tow. example- gcvwr8500lbs-gvwr5000=3500lbs. now we already have 1000lbs of payload so we have to include that too. so 3500lbs-1000lbs= trailer can weigh 2500lbs in my example. rv specs will list dry weight and loaded weight or gvwr. do not use the dry weight. you will not be towing a dry camper. use the loaded weight. or approximate your weight- though that is hard to do. is there more to it. of course. you found your weights in your door jam and on your rv specs. should you tow to the exact amts that you can ?? no. why?? couple reasons. 1- you estimated how much weight you have in your vehicle. (the 280lbs). you didn't weigh the stuff right? you could be off a little. 2- the rv specs could be off a little too. you only know for sure if you go to a weight station. most people don't. 3- your vehicle can tow those amts- it's not a lie. but is this a one time tow to help a friend move? no. you are talking about travelling with an rv and putting some miles on. it's hard on the suspension, brakes, engine and transmission. take it to the max and you will be climbing a hill going 30 miles an hr with the rpm's screaming and the transmission fluid boiling. your vehicle will not like you and will treat you poorly in return. leave some room so you aren't maxing your tow vehicle out. some people would say go with 80% of what the sticker says you can tow. our example said we could tow 3500lbs. maybe shave 700 off and say we could tow 2800lbs. that might be a little better. minus our payload we r looking for a trailer weighing 1800lbs loaded. is there still more ? yes? am i helping or making things worse? i hope helping.
