All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Lance 830 Window replacement Lance2, I will try to post a photo. If it works what you are looking at is the stock I had the sheet metal shop bend and I drilled and cut into one inch wide pieces. These are the clamps that hold the window in. Since the window is 500 vs 520 high the provided clamps won’t reach the interior camper sides. This only applies to the top and bottom. This will make sense when you dry fit the window. An additional note, installing the inner screen/shade takes a little more “gentle force” due to the size differential. Re: Lance 830 Window replacement A couple things, I ordered a different part number but it crossed to the mg16rw that Tcliche found. Different distributors, same part. If you’re comfortable with Alibaba go ahead and order. What I have seen on Amazon is the window comes in and out of stock. I’ve seen them run out a couple times. You might consider what we. did and order two so you can match across the interior. Added advantage is you then have a spare in case one of the remaining two goes walk about. Lastly, I’m sure you have, but read all the texts on this post. There’s some good installation points. Also, I keep a plastic card clamped to my rear view mirror with a checklist prior to departure. Prominent on that is window latching. Good luck. Re: Lance 830 Window replacement Thomas, thanks for the update. I ordered the second window yesterday and finished the first install today. I believe it’s going to work well and it’s certainly the best replacement I’ve seen. I have several comments that might help others. I ordered the mg16rw from the same group on Amazon as you did. It took about a week and came undamaged but without instructions. It is fairly intuitive but I had to dry fit it to figure out how the clamps worked. The supplied clamps do not work on the top and bottom. I was then able to go to a sheet metal shop to have them bend a piece after which I drilled and cut to width. I made the long side about 1/2” longer. These were only for the top and bottom. Interestingly enough the window fit in perfectly but……the upper right and lower left were right on the edge so I had to slightly modify the opening to balance. It took all of about 5 minutes with a hack saw. I would strongly suggest dry fitting at least a couple of times. Like you I used shims at the top and bottom but I used 3m 4000 with some stainless sheet metal screws to attach to the foam. At the bottom I fastened to the metal L-brackets. I also used Dicor butyl tape to seal. As you commented the torque is a little uncertain so I tightened by hand several times around then used a wrench to tighten a little more. Re: Lance 830 Window replacement Hopefully I’m posting correctly. I’m a little confused by the formatting, computers are not my area of expertise. Between traveling in the camper for a couple months and getting Covid .I have been delayed in getting back to this thread. Tcliche, great rundown on the install. So the question is how is it working out with the MG16RW? I now have 11000 miles on my gorilla tape (and only one slight addition to the tape). I’m ready to order but would like to hear any other thoughts you may have. Thanks, Chris Re: Lance 830 Window replacementAnutami, thanks foe the suggestions. I order from Amazon all the time but I’ve stayed away from aliexpress. Have you used them? Regarding custom windows, I communicated with several manufacturers. They weren’t interested. While they did not give explicit reasons I got the feeling it was due to quantity and profit margins. Tcliche, the link was removed for some reason. Could you pm it to me. I had not heard of Maygood. They have a variety of windows with differing corner fillets. The window with the 7 mm fillet would work with just adding a gap filling piece at the bottom. Another option would be to get the 900x550 and cut a little off of the camper cutout top and bottom. The wall thickness parameters look good. The frameless windows were a closer match but I couldn’t find anything on a secure site. Good luck with your order. I’m interested to know how it fits.Re: Lance 830 Window replacementIn short, no. I have given up trying to get a match. We have talked to numerous rv salvage yards and looked at a variety of new windows. The problem as I mentioned in the previous post is the cutout corner fillet. There are several available that are close HxW but have a much greater fillet which leaves a gap at all corners. The solutions I’ve come up with are either to fill that gap or to create a thin spacer on the outside that would cover that gap. Part of the problem is the inside clothing rack on the top and a cherry clothing compartment I built for the bottom. It is the passenger side upper window. Very little extra room. Btw the screen/shade is totally separate and could possibly be used on a window with similar dimensions. I have pretty much resigned myself to filling in or covering the corners. Up to a few years ago there was a replacement available but to my understanding that is no longer made. Please post if you find a good fit. Good luck, ChrisRe: Lance 830 Window replacementI posted on this old Lance 830 thread because It would hopefully elicit the most knowledgeable responses. My camper is a Lance 830. I was camped in New Mexico in calm weather and a sudden wind gust pulled one of my windows up and threw it 20 feet. It damaged the lense but nothing gorilla tape couldn’t fix. Been that way for 5000 miles. Time to fix it. Talked to Lance. The window and its replacement are no longer made. Talked to several other suppliers/manufacturers, same answer. Talked to San Diego trailer supply, same answer, etc. While not a common size the main problem I am encountering is the cutout corner measurement. The curve is different and any modern replacement I have found leaves gaps. The dometic/seitz spec is 900x520. I have more numbers but this window is peculiar to Lance 830s. I would appreciate any help anyone who has replaced this window can give me. Thanks, ChrisRe: 1991 western wilderness water tankBottom line, joe is right. I don’t know about polypropylene but I have installed or attempted repair on 25-30 polyethylene tanks . Repair is successfully completed thru plastic welding. Harbor freight sells a “pos” tool. Hobie kayaks has a good(read expensive) tool. The problem is that you have to melt the plastic for it to bond, very dangerous because you might melt too much then you end up with a gap. Good to have a spare piece of polyethylene. Repairing modern rotomolded kayaks the same. As far as installing an access port, it will work as long as you don’t over pressurize the tank, such as filling until full. One of the great advantages of polyethylene is nothing sticks to it well, including sealant. You still face the problem of repair if you take this route. When I was in business I ordered tanks from Ronco ( Ron’s company), on the west cost I believe. Back then they made many tanks of different shapes and sizes with no holes. I would call and order a tank and specify hole size and location and they would spin/melt a fitting in where I wanted. Hope this helps.Re: Stable Camper anti-rocking systemJshupe, not to change the subject but unless I missed it, you should post in a new thread about your solar panel layout.Re: Lance 1131 Camper Tent RebuildThanks for the update info. I’m looking forward to hearing how the new tent fits. Hopefully someone will chime in regarding the seal. Our 830 spent its early days in the southwest and the past seven years either traveling or in Florida. The seal is cracking and irregular throughout its length. The problem with the leaking is, in my opinion, due to the degrading of the seal. Anyway, don’t want to hijack your thread so I’ll leave it there. Chris. Btw, that’s a great price.
