Re: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel Forum FastEagle wrote: According to the specs I found for your trailer you have 7000# axles. Because Keystone has used OE tires rated at 3520# @ 80 psi (A very poor selection for a toy hauler - In my opinion) you have a wide selection of suitable replacement tires to choose from and it looks like you have been doing a lot of good homework. As you can see in this reference there are a lot of options just in the 16” LRG. There are equally as many 17.5” choices, many with very reasonable prices for tire/rim combinations. The bottom line I’m getting to is your recommended tire pressure for whatever upgrade you decide to use. Remember, your manufacturer has set your minimum tire load capacity at 3520# with the OE tires. None of the 16” LRG tires will provide that much load capacity at 80 psi. And the 17.5” tires will also need more than 80 psi. It’s been recommended numerous times in this thread to use at least 15% in load capacity reserves above the vehicles GAWR (7000# ea). 2010 specs FastEagle Actually the tires that Keystone used for my rig are Carlisle's rated at 3420lb and therefore adjusted the placard numbers for GAWR to 6840lbs. I determined they were 7k axles through some homework and in order to achieve 15% reserve capacity I need a tire rated to at least 4120lbs, so I have decided to go with the 17.5" option with a load rating of 4805lbs... Lots of reserve capacity!Re: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel ForumOK... so I read through the majority of posts on this thread and there is definitely a lot of good information here!! The only thing I am a little unclear about is how the load ratings are calculated between ST and LT tires. I am in the process of researching new tires for my 5er and have found that the Goodyear G614 (LR-G, 14 ply, 3750lb capacity, LT tire) would meet my criteria. One of the shops I spoke to also recommended a Kenda Karrier HD Radial (LR-F, 12ply, 3960lb capacity ST tire). I am confused as to how a LR-F tire can have a higher max laod capacity than a LR-G tire even if they are ST vs. LT. Obviously the Kenda is about 1/2 the cost of the GY. My trailer axles are rated (according to the placard) at 6840lbs but I know they are 7k axles that the manufacturer reduced the rating on to ensure that the standard LR-E tires (rated at 3420lbs) can be used. And to top it all off, I found I can upgrade to a 17.5" tire (Hercules H-902 245/75R17.5 135/133L 16 ply) including new steel rims for the same cost as the G614. I am leaning towards the 17.5" option because it seems the tires are more readily available than the G614 (at least around here) and of course because the load rating is total overkill for my trailer at 4805lbs per tire. Also, the replacement cost of the 17.5" tire is about $100 less per tire than the G614, so in 5 years when I need to replace tires, my costs will be less. Does this logic make sense, or am I going way overboard here when I could safely go with the Kenda tire in terms of load capacity and in turn save a whack of dough? Comments?Re: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???We took the Fuzion out camping this past weekend and one thing I was gonna do on Saturday is install a piece of plexiglass about 24" tall on the sliding screen door that separates the garage from the rest of the trailer. The purpose of the plexi is to keep my Dogs from ripping the screen in order to come into the living quarters at night. Well on Friday night I closed the screen door (without the plexi installed yet cuz I was gonna do it on Saturday) and around 2am I was greeted by a big sloppy kiss from my dogs... now I have to replace the screen too!!Re: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???Installed a couple MaxxAir covers and one MaxxAir FanMate cover over the Fantastic Fan. Installed an Extreme Vent on my black tank vent and then prepared the front compartment so I can install my Progressive Industries EMS tomorrow. One more week til the first trip!!Re: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today??? ksss wrote: Great_Danes wrote: Found a pinhole in the roof near the left rear corner :M Water has likely been seeping in there over the winter (or even longer, but I only got the trailer in December). I am curious how you found such a small hole without finding the damage first? I figured I would take the opportunity to inspect the roof at the critical areas (front & rear caps, ladder, all openings) since all the snow was gone from the roof and I didn't do an overly detailed roof inspection when I picked up the trailer. Honestly, I am not sure if there is any damage, I am just thinking that there will be if water has leaked in here for a while. I wonder if it is worth the effort to open the area up to check for moisture since the hole is now fixed? Won't it just dry up (slowly) over time?Re: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???Found a pinhole in the roof near the left rear corner :M Water has likely been seeping in there over the winter (or even longer, but I only got the trailer in December). So many great tips to utilize I don't know where to start. The 5er is in storage right now and it's cold so I can only do minor interior things for now. I will post my own hints once I figure some out that haven't been posted here yet ;) Keep 'em coming!Re: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???I cut up an old TT cover and sewed up a couple of tandem tire covers for my new rig. I also mounted a small TV in the bedroom and put up a small bar that I can hang the tie downs from in the garage. A small bungee keeps the bottom of the straps from banging around.
