I have read a lot of good reviews from others that use these on their trailers. So another option I was thinking about, in regards to tire size, was instead of going with the 225/75r16, going with the 215/85r16. The only reason I was thinking of this tire was its slightly taller, although a bit skinnier. I would like to raise the trailer just an inch so that is why I like the taller tire. I just need to make sure they fit both in the wheel well and tire spacing between the two. The 225 has a diameter of 29.3" and the 215 is 30.4". If they do seem to fit after my measurements, has anyone had issues with running a slightly skinnier tire?Re: Upgrade to 16" wheels ,seek opinions for tires (LT vs ST?)Hi John, Thank you for the link and info. Yes the 4400# axles are a concern for me. Eventually I will upgrade to 5200# and correct springs. The GVWR is 10,300. I also plan on adding an equalizer and shock kit. Thanks for that write up. I will definitely make sure I have all the clearances needed.Re: Upgrade to 16" wheels ,seek opinions for tires (LT vs ST?)Yea Path1. I have definitely thought about the price to do the wheel/tire upgrade. It is a lot of money. I think if didn't plan to put so many miles on the trailer the next few years I would think more about keeping the 15s and finding a good 15" trailer tire. Hopefully those Goodyears keep getting good reviews.Re: Upgrade to 16" wheels ,seek opinions for tires (LT vs ST?)Sorry, I forgot to mention, yes it is 6 lug. The current wheel is a 15x6" wheel. Ive found a few 16x6" or 16x6.5" wheels that will work. I guess I was a bit concerned with the extra tire weight of the Michelin. Bit I have read a lot of good reviews of them.Upgrade to 16" wheels ,seek opinions for tires (LT vs ST?)I know this topic has been beaten into the ground, however, as I read forum after forum about the LT vs ST topic, I noticed a lot of people posting about changing to LT tires have heavier trailers with heavier axles (6,000, 7000lbs etc). I just purchased a new light 29' 5th wheel. The dry weight is about 7300lbs and it came with 4400lb LCI axles. The trailer came with cheap ST225/75-15 load range D tires. The first upgrade I would like to do is take of the current 15" wheels and put on 16" wheels. After reading all the different opinions about LT vs ST tires and reading about what brand tires people are using, I think I have narrowed it down to either: 1) Michelin XPS Ribs LT225/75R16 weight = 50lbs 2) Bridgestone Duravis LT225/75R16 weight = 52lbs 3) Firestone Transforce HT LT225/75/16 weight - 34lbs All those listed are load range E. I have thought about sticking with the 15" but seems there are more, and better, tire options with 16"s. So my question is will running the Michelin or Bridgestone tires cause more long term wear on other components because of their heavier weight? The Firestone Transforce is quite a bit lighter. I have read through various forms that people have had good experiences with all three brands. I will be traveling around the country for the next 2 years so I will be putting quite a bit of miles on the trailer, so trying eliminate as many blowouts and mechanical issues as possible. Thanks for the thoughts and opinionsRe: Ram 3500 4x4 Superglide setup questionsWow...doesn't squat very much. Thanks azrving for checking and all the info. True the Superrail is not available for the 3500, just the standard rail mount. According to pullrite, the lowest profile Superglide they make is part #2300, the 24k rated hitch. It will fit industry standard rails. It is 15.75" tall. I will more than likely get that hitch even thought it is way overkill as far as capacity. I think it I was to go with a manual slide, I would look at the Reese 16K slider part 30869. It has vertical adjustments from 16" to 19" But I really like the idea of the autoslide...Re: Ram 3500 4x4 Superglide setup questionsthanks azrving...I am in the chicken before the egg scenario here. I need the hitch to get the trailer but need the trailer to get the right hitch setup. It appears I might, from you and centerline's reply, need to do some type of lift to the trailer to maintain bed clearance and keep a level trailer. I just measured my bed rails. At the axle, from the top of the bed rail to the ground is 57". I am hoping of getting approx, 2" of squat, to get the bed rails to 55". I'm hoping the level trailer overhang will be at least 62" from the ground. Ive contacted a dealer and the manufacturer to see if I could get these measurements. That will give me the 6 to 7" of bed rail clearance I want. then I just need to find the correct hitch height and kingpin position. According to Pullrite, the 24K model hitch (part 2300) is 15.75" tall. This is there shortest autoslide.Re: Ram 3500 4x4 Superglide setup questionsHi azrving, I was wondering what hitch you have what year Ram you have. Do you happen to know the height of the hitch? I received some information from Pullrite. It appears to get the lowest hitch height setup using a Superglide hitch, I would need to use the standard rail mounting setup, not using the OEM Ram 5th Wheel prep kit (which I dont have in my truck anyways). The reason why, Pullrite does not make a hitch that plugs directly into the OEM 5th wheel pucks. You need a picture frame adapter and in certain situations you need an additional adapter to use the OEM puck system. So using those adapters can raise the hitch 3" to 6". If using just the standard rail mount, this is about a 1" rise. From Pullrite, the 16K hitch model 2700 is 17.25" tall. Using the standard rail mount that adds about 1" more...that would be about 18.25" tall The 16K hitch model 4100 is 14.5" tall. I'm no too sure of the mounting system for the 4100 model hitch so not sure how much additional height that would add? I was curious if anyone that has a late model 4x4 Ram uses a hitch that is about 17 to 18" tall? If so did you have to do any modifications to the trailer (lift etc..) to get the trailer level? Another note, I do plan on changing the stock wheels/tires to 16" wheels and LT tires..Re: Ram 3500 4x4 Superglide setup questionsI forgot to state the 5th Wheel...I am looking at the CruiserAire 25rl. Yes that 1,330 hitch weight was just published weight...Re: Ram 3500 4x4 Superglide setup questionsHi, thanks for the reply. I was mentioning the hitch weight because it is fairly light and wont bring much "squat" to the truck to help bring the nose down. I have read the problem with the Superglide is there is no hitch adjustments for raising or lowering...
