It is one lane for RV's due to the size of the tunnel. You don't need to contact the Rangers, there's one at the entrance. TunnelRe: Utah and North Rim Grand CanyonWe were in that area this past early November. We stayed at Kanab and took a day trip to the North Rim. None of the facilities were open. (Take that back, there was a little store/gas station open). The roads were fine. It was a long day trip but totally worth it. It was awesome! We then stayed at Zion's Watchman campground. Took another day trip to Bryce. Zion and Bryce are beautiful! It was cold but you can dress accordingly and Enjoy!Re: Southwest National Parks in NovemberWe took a 3 month trip out west in September, October and November. We stayed in Watchman campground in Zion and it was fine. Zion is beautiful and we took a day trip to Bryce which is awesome also. In Zion you are down in the Canyon looking up and in Bryce you are at the top looking down. Each one has it's own spectacular beauty. After we left Glen Canyon on our way to Zion we stopped in Kanab at Hitch-N-Post RV Park for a couple of nights and took a day to drive to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. AWESOME! I know we missed a lot more in southern Utah but it was getting too cold for us so we headed on out for Nevada and California. Have fun!Re: West Yellowstone or Gardiner? 2gypsies wrote: Wow! Are you aware of the mileage for this trip? It's 1400 miles from Lebanon, MO to W. Yellowstone. Pulling a RV, that's a very long two-day drive counting on no maintenance issues, etc. The route you would take is I-80 getting off at Rawlins, Wyoming on Hwy 191. Take 191 which will bring you into Grand Teton Nat'l Park. Coming in from this entrance will at least give you a wonderful view of the Tetons since you have no time to stay there. Then continue north into Yellowstone via 191/287/89 and to West Yellowstone. Skip Gardiner. Then you only have four nights for Yellowstone and something in Montana. I would suggest going to Ennis/Virginia City for your Montana 'experience'. You just don't have time to get any further and you could do this side trip from W. Yellowstone. Then you're planning two days to return to Missouri. You are in for some long, long driving days. I hope you have others in the vehicle that can share your driving. I also see that you have two dogs. I'd suggest you leave them at home in care of someone else for this trip. Dogs are not allowed on the trails of Yellowstone, including boardwalks. Some of the best features of Yellowstone is walking on the boardwalks to get to them. Here's is Yellowstone's official site with lots of good information. Explore it thoroughly, included the pet regulations. http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/pets.htm Good advice. Another route I would consider to come out right at the Tetons is to get off of Interstate 80 at Rawlins and take 287 up through Lander and you will have the most awesome view of the Tetons as you travel up Togwotee Pass. It would only take an hour or two to drive through this beautiful park and then head north and you are at the entrance of YNP or follow 2 Gypsies route to West Yellowstone. You may be ready for a "rest stop" by the time you get here also and want to spend the night at one of the parks here in the Tetons. Don't short yourselves on this vacation and try to see too much. Yellowstone will take your whole 4 days+. Anyway have a great time!Re: What is your Christmas Full-Time RV'ing Miracle?Storms near Lake Lavon How blessed you are. People did die all around you! Thanks for sharing!Re: What is your Christmas Full-Time RV'ing Miracle? My miracle is almost 6 years old. In 3 months my DH will be 6 years out on his HEART TRANSPLANT. For 3 years before that it was a day to day thing to wonder if he would be alive the next day. For the last 6 months he was on intravenous meds at home to keep him alive. I retired a year ago from 40 years of nursing and we have been FTing for about 8 months now. I never thought it would ever happen. We are so thankful for God's gift and that of the 34 y/o young man that lost his life in an industrial accident and his family!Re: Hot Spring to soak in at YellowstoneThanks all for the good info. I've been to YNP several times and love more each time I go. I have always intended to go soak in the boiling river but for one reason or another we always get away before that happens! DH and I will be contracting for the COE again May-Labor Day then hopefully heading up that way for a couple of months. Maybe it will be less crowded (ha,ha)at that time. We really enjoy that time of year in YNP. Wildlife seems mor active toward the end of September if I remember correctly.
