I even cut some thin strips (veneer) to cover the hinges so you don't see then when the top so folded down. Works like a charm. James New Thunderbolt 417 XLRWe picked up our 2016 Thunderbolt 417 XLR and couldn't be happier with the trailer. There is no comparison between it and our old Work and Play. The PDI went great and didn't find any issues other than the dovetail storage box was not installed. The 2015 and 2016 brochures both state the storage box is standard on all XLRs. I discussed this with the salesman and he called Forestriver. They told him it was never installed on a 417 due to structural issues which I find hard to believe. I looked under the trailer and saw there are mounting tabs on the frame to attach the box and if you can load 3000 pounds in the garage, installing the box is not gong to be an issue. I called Forestriver and talked to them and again they stated the same thing about the box was never included on the 417. I told them that this is one of the reasons I bought the trailer and that the brochure did not state it was excluded. Forestriver then said they would send me box and door for the floor and I could install it. I can do this easily but this was their mistake that it was not installed and I think they should treat this as a warranty issue. Now with all that being said, is there anyone out there with a 2015 or 2016 Thunderbolt XLR 417 and does it have the dovetail storage box. As far as the FK, we are going to sell it. It will make a good trailer for a weekend racer.Just bit the bullet. The wife and I just ordered a 2016 XLR Thunderbolt 417 yesterday. We have been looking for a pretty good while to upgrade from what we currently have which is a 2007 W&P 38 FK. After taking a 6 week road trip last year in the FK, I decided I'm to fat and old to climb a ladder to get into bed and move around on my hands and knees. It's a good trailer for short trips but a killer for longer ones. I'm looking forwards to walk up 3 steps, walk to the bed to go to sleep! The biggest plus will be not having to worry about falling or tripping going down the ladder at night when nature calls and waking up the whole campground. The 417 is going to be perfect for us. I can't wait to load up one of the toys and hit the road.Re: what cars?We bought our TH to primarially carry a replica of a 1965 Cobra.
