So I will be saying goodbye to RV.net. Thanks to all of those who helped me out, wish I could try and do the same for others.Re: Well nut size for large solar panels? As for the one I thought I was going to have to put at the far front, turns out that all four panels fit on that aft portion, so that isn't a worry for me anymore. Not that I'll need it, but there is room for two more of these panels :)Re: Well nut size for large solar panels? Heynow999 wrote: Looks good, I like it. I like the strip of Eternabond. You probably should have given the roof a good cleaning first, might help the eternabond stick better? I made sure to clean where the eternabond went, as good as I could, I was thinking the same thing.Re: Well nut size for large solar panels?Only got one done due to time constraints, but I'm very happy with it. Probably too many pictures below, but I figured more is better? Criticism and ideas are welcome, I still have three more to do, but will be a week or two. Lifting the panel to put down eternabond tape underneath: After the tape was laid down, I put the panel down and marked the holes so I knew where to predrill: After I drilled the holes, I put a circle of leveling sealant around the holes: When I lowered the panel down, the excess sealant came through the mount holes, as seen in the bottom of the pic: I then puddled the sealant to cover the screw head: Above view when done: Almost done on another bracket: Side view of the covered screw heads: Overhead of the finished product: Another overhead: Another overhead: Side view to show the gap for the heat dissipation: Re: Well nut size for large solar panels?Basic positioning done, drilling holes is next. Scared but excited. Re: Well nut size for large solar panels?I put the bracket on backwards for the pic. It was a long day making and drilling 16 of those. I will reverse it when I install it, thanks. I also have eternabond tape to do as you suggested, I've seen that video, good stuff. And GotDirt, thanks for all the pics! I also plan on using those knob screws and wing nuts, just don't have them right now. I don't think I ever will, but that would give the tilting option.Re: Well nut size for large solar panels? Thanks rjxj! I know these brackets are overkill, but it makes me more secure for my 72"x40" panels. With luck I'll get them all mounted in the 16th. Re: Well nut size for large solar panels?Do I really have to host pictures somewhere in order to post them here? Or am I missing something?Re: Well nut size for large solar panels?Thank you everyone for all the input. I am going to copy GotDirt's design. I know it's overkill and more money, but I'll sleep better. 1280 watts here I come! I'll post pics here as I progress.Re: Well nut size for large solar panels? rjxj wrote: I used one of ***Link Removed*** on each bracket along with a number 10 ss screw. I used the toggle portion and added a 3/16 stainless screw. What type of roof do you have? Bumpyroad wrote: I would trust screws over well nuts. bumpy That's the way I'm going now. Another question, what would give a better bite: wood glue or sealant in the screw hole. I've never worked with this roof sealant, but I'm guessing wood glue would give a stronger hold.
