Now if I compare my 91 Cummins to my 05 it's like comparing my 05 to my Ford 9N tractor, slow noisy crude. Wife won't race me in the 91, but I can tell you it wouldn't be close, nor will she allow me to try and sell it again.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... Folks stretch and skew the numbers. Diesels generally do better but I never saw the huge numbers that often get reported here. Nor have I seen the horrible mileage some folks report they "used to get" with their screaming red-lining gassers. The average person tells three lies a minute when his yak is running.:B Your driving habits are why your not getting any better MPG. Keep your speed under 55 mph and you will see 23 mpg from that Cummins. Watch the road ahead, if you see a red light let the engine brake you, all fuel is cut off on a diesel when decelerating, saves the brakes as well. Guess you wouldn't believe me if I told you I got 65,000 miles out of my 1st set of brakes? I have no reason to fabricate a story believe it or not up to you. I'm nearing 92,000mi and still have plenty of pad on the original set of brakes, avg. 125,000 to 170,000 on my last Dodge, both equipped with an exhaust brake.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... rdebault wrote: Well say what you want I know what mileage I get and the computer on the truck doesn't lie. I document every tank of diesel I put in my truck and calc mileage based on the odometer along with the on board computer. So unlike you I have actual proof along with witnesses of course. If you had a early 6.0 powerstroke I can see why you are a little disgruntled. They did have problems in the early years thats why I have a 7.3L...... By the way its a fact that Diesle engines last longer than gasoline engines when they are worked hard. As far as cost of ownership is concerned my diesel has not cost me near what my gasoline truck did. Once again though its only because I was using the gasoline truck to pull cattle trailers and my fifth wheel. If I just drove around town then the gasoline truck would have probably would have the same cost of ownership. The reason it would have been even is the fact that gasoline engines get terrible mileage.... LOL Saying the computer doesn't lie after adding a programmer is like saying Ponie's word is gospel cuz he once drove by a church... just doesn't add up.Re: Diesel vs gas......................I paid $4.09 between Macon and Atlanta this morning.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... Rvndave wrote: Your last post shows exactly why I wanted to line our rigs up ponie. You want to ride an determine whats good by the seat of the pants feel. Would be hard for ya to determine what has the most pulling power by seat of the pants. You don't want to buy looking at torque an horsepower specs, you don't want to line it up. Your next truck will be gas, because inspite of the facts you just know gas is more powerful. So why bother asking for a bogus tow of your rig???? I already know your going to say gas is faster. This is why he wouldn't take me up on his so called challenge, I wanted to video tape from a chase truck, this way he couldn't come on here saying oh my truck was much stronger, I'll be back in PA in 3 weeks we will see if he wants to put up or shut up.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... Jarlaxle wrote: But the 7.3 is an easy 300,000+ miler. The 6.0 is, if you're lucky, good for 30-35K before something blows up. It's the modern version of the 350 Olds. Absolutely, my wife still wishes she had her 7.3L back, never had a problem with it other than a fuel leak that developed 15 minutes after the warrantee ran out. We never had a 6.0L but know several people that did, both had problems.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... ponie wrote: ponie wrote: F350 7.3 Liter with turbo 4inch exhaust and chip. Is this the holy grail of diesels or is the new technology heads and tails ahead? ???? while the 7.3 is a great motor it's output is far from the current generations of diesels. The 7.3 was replaced by the more powerful 6.0L and then the even more powerful 6.4L. Holy Grail I think not...Re: Diesel vs gas......................The troll ponie ignored my acceptance of his so called challenge.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... He doesn't have a truck, or has a little one but brags that it is big. 2. Doesn't have a 14,000 lb 5th wheel. Maybe a popup. 3. He's afraid to come out of hiding, prefers fighting in the safe confines of his living room. If he were serious he'd tell me where to meet him, but that won't happen.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... ponie wrote: marty649 wrote: Talk about getting caught bluffing, I challenged you to come out of hiding and put up or shut up, your rules no stipulations on my part, you didn't even respond. TROLL, drop your weak and childish posts, your a fake plain and simple, crawl back under yor rock. "Crawl back under your rock" "Come out of hiding" "Drop your weak childish post" Tell me Marty, just what exactly is a Troll for you RVforum guys? Please be specific becuase with my time on the internet, this is the only forum where I have ever had constant outburst that use this term. I Don't understand whats eating you, but your ignorant responce has a much more youthful tone than anything I have posted to date no? You keep asking for someone to come forward to prove you wrong, when someone takes you up on your challenge you ignor it and continue your quest that no one will will step forward. You answered 1 challenge that you knew would never take place due to the lack of a 5th wheel hitch. All you want to do is create arguments on how great your truck is, so you think it's great thats fine. It's just not up to the task of going against a late model diesel head to head.
