All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Extended stay recommendation, Fl Keys in FebSince I noticed your logo at the bottom of the page I assume you are retired Navy. Key West NAS has an RV Park on the water. We took our TC down there about 4 years ago and stayed for a week. Not the most spacious RV park but some spots on the water and full hooks in Key West for $14 per night (might have gone up a little by now). Active duty have priority and after that everyone else who has DoD rights is first come/first serve (ie. retire). It was ran fairly well and we were treated great. No issues at all. Keep in mind a lot of retirees go down there in the winter and stay a long time but the rules state you cannot stay more than 14 days at a time unless there is space. Odds are quite a few will have been down there for more than a month already and they will have to make space for you. Don't feel bad about; DoD campgrounds are not for folks to stay at for 6 months at time but rather for all to enjoy. One last thing: Go Army, beat Navy.Re: PNW Meet n Greet - Looking for interest? We are interested in a gathering but would prefer to see early/late fall due to the short notice. In May I will be bouncing around the strait halibut fishing every weekend and in Jun/Jul doing a Yellowstone, MT, ID, etc. trip. I like the area you mentioned so I can tow my Jeep or bring an ATV. I just think May is too short of notice to get a huge gathering.Re: Seattle RV Show Feb 11-14, 2016I have already looked a the Eagle Cap and their sofa does not come with a bed option. Plus it is triple slide and the base weight (with out "mandatory" options) is 1,000 pds heavier. While I am not the weight police I do tow either my Jeep or a boat so I try to be little weight conscious. I have never seen or researched a Host so I can't comment on it.Re: Seattle RV Show Feb 11-14, 2016Thanks; I already sent them an email asking if they will have one present. We are interested in that model. Our kids have outgrown the tent option on our 1131 and DW really likes the sofa that will fold down into a bed.Re: Seattle RV Show Feb 11-14, 2016We are going to go on Sat. if there is a Lance dealer there with the 1172. I was going to go to the Tacoma show this week but no Lance TC dealer will be present.Re: I'm on the dark path many others have followed........Understand completely. We purchased our camper when our kids were 2 y/o and the other 3 months. Now they are 10 and 8. DW, the kids, and I have been looking at toy haulers. Not saying we are going to get one (except they kids, they would love it) but with a family of 4 (and a 75lb lab)the extra space seems nice. We love going to state and national parks and some of the parks we love we couldn't get a 5th wheel into. Plus I also tow either the Jeep or boat often and I would lose that (my boat weights 7K so I can't triple tow it).Re: hot water heaters in TC'sMarried? If yes get it and save the complaining later on if you don't. Personally I like having hot water available on demand should I need it. Not a fan of rinsing dishing with cold water (doesn't get the soap off) and washing hands/face/other areas with hot water can not be undersold.Re: Where is your truck camper headed this summer?Heading home to Gig Harbor, WA. The Army is finally moving me from Alabama. DW, kids, and I are excited. As usual with our many Army moves will take 30 days and slowly traverse the country stopping and seeing what ever we want. We have done this 4 times before, never make reservations, and just wing it. Always a great adventure for us.Re: F350 with Host Yukon flat towingI flat tow a Wrangler behind my camper 1/2 the time when traveling. With the weight I, and you, will be carrying in the bed you don't want to add any more weight to you GVWR. I have the blue ox tow bar and a brake buddy. There are many brands out there so choose what you like and to your budget. Like many posters stated above you need a supplement brake system for your toad. An extra 4K+ lbs pushing you forward when you try and stop will destroy your trucks braking system and present a hazard for you and drivers around you. The set up will not be cheap initially but will pay off in the long run.Re: Lance 1131 / 1191 w/ tent - pros/cons?As you can tell I have a 2007 1131 (purchased new in 2008) and have had no major issues. I have two daughters which means with the DW I travel with three girls most of the time. I will list my pros/cons, which I am sure will miss some of your your questions so PM me if you want something specific. My only caveat is we love this camper and have put over 15K miles on it. Tent: This is a great option for the kids to play, watch a movie, and generally hang out and play in during bad weather leaving room for adults in the dinette and floor. We have camped in extremely cold weather (Leavenworth, WA in Jan; Hamilton, MT in Nov) and how did we address the heat loss issue? We didn't use the tent. When the temp. is below 40 we don't use the tent due to the heater not being able to keep up. That is where the bunk comes in handy. When in areas when you can't have a soft side camper (certain areas in Yellowstone, BC, Yukon, etc..) you just don't put out the tent; it is that simple. The tent should not stop you from camping anywhere. The tent option is the best option on that camper in my opinion. Perform a little maintenance on it and it will last. When closed the tent does not take up any space inside the camper. Bathroom: My wife would not budge on the dry bath. With 3 girls my shower is probably used more than most. It is also a great place for storage when traveling. As for the carpet around the toilet I thought it was a stupid idea but nothing you can't deal with. Shampoo once a year and aim straight. Also it took one trip for me to replace the facet in the bathroom sink; it was worthless because you couldn't get one hand under it. Storage: There are only two outside storage areas and they aren't big. One on left side dinette slide on one on the back right next to the battery compartment. I put tools, misc. fishing gear, and blocks in them. Inside I feel there is plenty of storage if you plan and pack right. If I can travel with 3 girls for more than 30 days at a time and have no storage issues anyone can do it. Inside two big storage compartments under the dinette seats, one big closest in the overhead, three medium storage drawers in the overhead, and a big pantry. Only caveat is the pantry; I ripped out the POS sliding system that it came with and built my own shelving system. By doing that I increase capacity by over 500%. There is one big 2X1.5X4 storage box that slides out from under the stairs. FYI: this is the only storage area inside my wife gives me control over. Overall we love this camper. I have had small maintenance issues which is to be expected but no show stoppers. We do a lot of dry camping and it holds up well. A lot of people disagree but I like the onboard generator to charge things. The solar panels are also a must have IMO; it is great a keeping the batteries topped up and charge during the day. I have never had an issue with dead batteries and my daughters hate to turn off lights for some reason. With 4 people the camper can feel cramped but we are only in the camper together during bad weather or to sleep. Of course I highly recommend the awning so you can be outside sipping a beverage in the rain when everyone else is inside (or maybe that is how I hide from 3 girls perhaps). PM me for direct questions or if you want a picture of something specific. Last but not least as for the beds and tent being 6ft I don't think that is accurate. Maybe 5'6" at most (that maybe optimistic). I figure once my kids reach the middle school years I may have to think about something else. If bed size is a concern go lay in one before you plop down the $.
