The OEM cross-members in this trailer are "paper-thin", ridiculously thin in my novice opinion. The cross-members cantilever across the wheeled sub-frame, holding the shell walls on the overhanging span. They are bolted to the sub-frame. Fractures had occurred where the bolt passed through the cross-member and in the middle of one cross-member where most people traffic would occur. There were also too few cross-members in my opinion, even for a 'lite' trailer. Comparatively, it is now hopefully "built like a tank" without adding that much more weight. I've decided to retain the underside metal exterior skin and even replace a section that I tore out because it was worn/corroded through. I'll likely just use some galvanized sheet metal I have already left over from my HVAC days (20 gauge I think). I didn't remove the partition walls, merely tore the floor out from under them and will trim the bottoms when installing the new flooring (polystyrene insulation with Douglas Fir 5/8 ply treated with Copper II wood preservative separately (not commercial "pressure-treated" ply). Going to start on this phase soon.Re: Copper II wood treatment for replacement floorThanks SidecarFlip, your comments are generalized but welcome. I intended to coat all plywood surfaces, especially all exposed or cut edges. This particular product says it is intended for use prior to staining but also says it is for surfaces not intended for painting which makes me question adherence characteristics of the treated surface. The plywood underside will be in contact with the polystyrene, likely with some construction adhesive, and I was thinking of vinyl type flooring on top glued down with some leftover proper flooring glue from my kitchen reno. I agree with the OSB comments from the research I've done which is why I intend to opt for Douglas Fir plywood as my choice.Copper II wood treatment for replacement floorHas anyone used Copper II wood treatment for RV floor treatment? I'm replacing the expanded foam under-floor insulation with extruded polystyrene and putting a layer of Douglas Fir plywood over top. I want to treat the ply and saw ArmorAll Copper II wood preservative but it says "For exterior use only. Not for use in dwellings". People use pressure treated woods in their RVs from what I read, so it likely wouldn't be any worse than that. The can says "contains petroleum distillates and copper napthenate". I'd like to hear opinions before I get to that stage.Aero Seven 21RBI'm looking to have additional cross-members welded into the floor framing on my just-acquired 1997 Aerolite 21RB. Any idea what grade of aluminum is used in these frames? What grade of aluminum rectangular tube should be used for the additional cross-members? I'm replacing the entire floor as it was sopping wet and rotted. The floor sagged and I just found that a cross-member was broken. I'm stripping the floor down to the frame, and am removing/discarding the underside metal exterior skin as I can't believe that to be a great design idea, once water gets in how would it ever get out. Any trick to removing the floor-to-ceiling wall panels without damaging the ceiling?Re: Question about Aerolite Travel TrailersHello all, just joined today and was pleased to find a very recent post here that discusses the Aero as I just bought a used 1997 21RB this week. The main issue with it, and not a small one, is that the floor needs replacing and I have started removing the old flooring today. I paid $1800 CAN.
