All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Best Truck Campers for Winter CampingLast night it was -4 degrees (F). Just another winter day in our '85 Bigfoot, as we woke up to 68 degrees inside. We've been full-timing in our "tiny home" for 3 years now, and have fully enjoyed the winters for many years before that. Jefe 4x4 sums it all up ... prepare your unit for how you're going to live. The above pic is a warmer day last week, snow melting and icicles forming. We've added insulation, additional battery power, ensured air flow throughout the unit, wrapped every pipe and more. And we always pack backup systems. We might note that 2 years ago, we had to spend a short time in a 5er while we were getting truck repairs, and a slide was a definite no-no for keeping warm! We like our Bigfoot for all season living and traveling. I remember that it had something to do with isolating the shower drain from the gray water tank when it gets relatively full. But, do email them for the full answer.Re: Basic First Aid KitsThanks!!! Great advice we will use!Re: Two banks of two batteries - different size - no-no?We chose option 2 ... it gives us extra safety in case of a single battery/bank failure. We have two banks in the bed of the truck, and one bank up front (3-way switch).Re: Reconnecting through camping and photographyWonderful story ... I'm still looking for the dishwasher in my camper! Thanks for sharing!!Re: Trip report: A week in WalesWonderful ... Makes me want to sit out by the coast and enjoy a spot of tea on a cool morning. Hmmm ... good idea!!!!Re: What did you do to your truck today? bka0721 wrote: billyray50 wrote: Bigfoot85 wrote: Time to clean up the power situation for winter ... A little over 450AH ... now ready for winter. Yay! Nice set up!! Always good to have more power! Just like horsepower, there is never enough. Are you comfortable with having miss matched batteries and unbalanced cabling? Have you seen any vagaries in the output and charging using this setup? The manual switches allow me to turn on/off each of the three systems separately (truck, 2x12v, 2x6v). This allows me to charge/discharge each system as needs arise. The 2x12v are not the same (one is a year older than the other), but they have performed perfectly. They were matched in all other respects.Re: What did you do to your truck today?Time to clean up the power situation for winter ... Must have been tempting to stay another week or two regardless of the snowy forecast! Thank for sharing the adventure with us!!!Re: TR: A week at Camp P82 - Different Scenes than most TRsGreat pics ... and an uplifting story. Thanks for sharing!!
