There are better options, these days, and Maxxis has been having more frequent failures the past couple years. Also, they're still restricted to 65 mph. You may not want to drive faster than that, but a tire that's rated higher, is going to be (or at least on paper) a better tire, with more heat resistance. That is the real killer of tires. Lyle i have never had a failure with a maxxis trailer tire. I have other brands and so have my friends. All have switched to Maxxis and no more failures in our group. if it ain't broke don't fix it jmho. Agreed, I replaced the original Blow Max after the first season with Maxxis, and upgraded from D to E rated. No problems until a bearing failure heated one of them up 4 years later to where it developed a raised center in the tread 3000 miles later. Replaced all four with more of the same 3 years ago and going strong.Re: Got to lift the fiver Wills6.4 Hemi wrote: Dtank wrote: Bookmark this thread to link for future posters who can't decide whether they want to purchase a 4x4 or a 4x2 truck.....like the poster who couldn't decide between the two - as he likes the *looks* of a 4x4 better. OP - NO "blocks" - do it right as suggested! :W the tread has nothing to do with 4x4 or 4x2 I have to have 4x4. The truck being lowered may be enough I will know tonight. If not the spring place advised they can help with different springs on the fiver. During season 7, the OEM springs on my fiver were so soft, the tires were bottoming out against the floor. I took it to a spring shop where they replaced the 4 leaf spring packs with 6 leaf spring packs. It raised the fiver 2" so it is now level and no more wallowing in bumps. It ticks me off that they put minimal suspension on these things.Re: Reese Revolution Pin Work with any hitch?Backing up with 2 turning points would be a mess that would probably damage both the truck and the fiver.Re: Part 3-4 weeks and 5 days how things are goingThanks for your experience with problems and solutions. Even though it has been 6 years and 7 camping seasons since we got our fiver, I enjoyed it and learned something.Re: Part 2-4 weeks and 5 days how things are goingSince I've had problems with fender screws on my Cougar, did you put screws back into the plastic mollies or used the mollies instead of screws. I have a similar problem with where I screwed into the tin underneath to hold a sewer pipe tube. Even bigger screws pull out so the mollies may do the trick.Re: Part 1-4 weeks and 5 days how things are goingWow, that new fiver sure made your truck look better! :)Re: My 2018 F150 Towing ExperienceWhile I towed a 10K fiver for 3 years with a 2011 F150 CCSB Eco, I upgraded to an F350 CCSB Powerstroke. I appreciate the extra 14" of bed length more than anything. If I were to return to an F150, it would have to be the HDPP. That said, a fiver is more stable than a TT and the 2015+ aluminum trucks are reported to be less stable towing than the steel bodies. I am not sure 400 lbs would make that much difference, but it could affect the way the suspension acts. If you are willing to toss a little money at it, get the LT tires and replace the Timbrens with Sumosprings as they engage sooner and are more progressive. I put them on my SD and they reduce sway on curvy mountain roads.Re: Anybody maxing out an F150, by J2807?I towed my 10K GVWR fiver for 3 seasons with an F150 Max Tow Ecoboost. Loaded pin was 1650-1700lbs and total weight was 9500. I never had an issue towing, handling or stopping, but stepped up to an F350 as I approached retirement and did not need a commute vehicle. I was at or within the door jamb label on all but the RAWR and was 650lbs over on that. Traded the truck at 64K for the Super Duty.Re: Keystone Cougar audio upgradeI wanted to upgrade as well and found very little out there. I eventually got a small Sony BluRay player and a Yamaha ATS-1060 soundbar with built-in subwoofer and bluetooth. So I no longer use the OEM stuff at all.Re: stupid mistakeBeen there as well, but am so paranoid about it that I creep slowly away. I only bumped the pin box against the tailgate and barely left a mark. Then there was the time I forgot the umbilical and yanked it out of the connector in the bed. No visible damage then either.
