Some cruise controls use feed back from the brake light for the cruise to work. LEDs won't give the feed back, just saying if it doesn't work ....

If a 4L80/85 E get too hot it will go into limp mode. I think at about 300 degrees.

Go buy a Scan Gage, plug it in and read the code or codes. Look up ECM codes for what ever classic, (GM&Ford), that you have. You can also read MPG etc. going down the road along with resetting codes as you go.
