We installed a transfer flow 50 gallon auxiliary tank in the bed of our truck. It’s great, all computer controlled, fill it and go. With our 42’ fifth wheel no fun trying to get in and out of gas stations. We installed it ourselves and was easy. Took our time and all together maybe 6 hours but hubby is picky and hide and took time to make it all clean looking. Some people complain about loosing bedspace but we don’t carry anything in our bed besides the hitch and our truck is only used for towing so for us made no difference. We use one every time we go out. Our trailer is 42’ and it’s a front living room so lots of movement over the kingpin. Then add in our two kids and 2 65lb dogs and well we are moving and bouncing. We tried to do it without that but kid moves upfront you feel it in the back. So we put the stand out and wow it made a world of difference. We have the 6 point hydraulic leveling system with X chocks in the wheels but movement was there. We also when stopped for a while will put two jack stands under the rear frame and it helps even more. So for us it is a great addition and well worth the money and space it takes up.607Views0likes0CommentsRe: Sliding Hitch
From our experience all depends on the person and trailer. My wife and I are soon to be on our third short bed truck for a fifth wheel but our 5th short bed truck over all. We have had a 2012 Ram Mega cab towing a 40’ bunk house and a 2016 Crew Cab Cummins towing a 42’ fiver and are ordering a new 2019 Mega Cab dually Cummins. Out of the 2 other trucks we have always had a sliding hitch, but never used it. Our trailers are the new front cap design that allows tighter turning. So with that and my wife who is an amazing spotter never had an issue. We have managed to get it into some good spots. We had an issue once so far that took several tries and that was at Fort Wilderness in Florida. With the 2019 we aren’t even doing a sliding hitch. We recently did a trip from eastern Connecticut to Disney World Florida and did I95 pretty much the whole way except around New York we took 287. It’s longer but takes the same amount of time as it would if you Stayed on i95. Just less traffic and other issues. As for height and length we were pulling our 42’ fifth wheel that is 13’3’ tall. No issues. We also have the good Sam RV gps which you can plug in your heights and weights. Worked good for us. As for gas stations we have a 50 gallon external tank in the bed of our truck so we would get to our destination, set up and then go to town and fill up truck. We have a pit mix, lab mix and a full blood hound(my retired police k9). Our pit is mixed with a lab and he was a rescue. Found him as a 4-5 month old puppy on the road at work one day. He is almost 10 now. The vet we go to is an awesome guy and understands how dumb people are about the breeds. When we first brought him in after we adopted him and he labeled him as a lab mix. We have only had on issue 2 years ago and the owners of the campground told us we would have to leave. We asked them to come to our site and meet “Duck”. Since we have been camping their for years and the staff loves him. So we talked to the bank today and they agreed that it has had a lot of issues and we should get a different trailer. They said it happens all the time and they have a center for these types of situations. We go to the dealer tell them the bank has agreed that the trailer is a lemon and then they contact the bank with a number they gave us. We all then agree on a different trailer that’s equal or great value and give the bank the info and they change it over. They say no lose to dealer as it counts as another sale for them for the books. But they didn’t explain what happens to the trailer and so forth. But going to dealer this afternoon to see if they have heard of this. Just remember, the decals aren't going to help you unload it... ;) Yes we called yesterday but they weren’t open.
