When running on flat ground I can just leave it in 10th gear and it'll run 70 MPH all day long. Hilly terrain I just lock out 9-10 and it'll cruise at 70 in 8th gear at about 2100 RPM with no problem. I get about 9 mpg towing but it tows it effortlessly. Haven't gone to the mtns or anything yet so I can't reference engine braking but plan to next summer. I'd given some thought to the 4.30 rear end but with what I'm towing I don't feel it would be any improvement.Re: Pump issuesSo it's not leaking around the pump at all, I cycled the valves and saw nothing there and when running the pump after adding water it performed perfectly. Shut off right away every time, no issues. But I do think there's a leak at the intake from the fresh water tank that I'll have to look into. Once I added water back into it I did see some dripping from the underbelly. So I'll have to pull that material down so I can see the tank and both the fill and pump intake line. On another note, there is a sediment filter between the winterize valve and the pump but there's no filter in it. Does that make any sense??Re: Pump issuesThanks for all the quick replys. I will dig into it tonight. Unfortunately I made the mistake of emptying my water tank and parked it where I can't reach it with a hose but I can add water from some jugs and do some investigating.Pump issuesLooking for some help here. We bought a 2015 Forest river Wildcat recently. Camper is in fantastic condition but I have a question on the pump. The previous owner replaced it right before selling to us and it seems to have an issue building pressure and a lot of air in the system. It’s most noticeable when flushing the toilet that it will just keep running sometimes. You’ll have to turn on another fixture and that fixture will run and spit a lot of air until it runs steadily then when you shut it off the pump will shut off. I hooked it up to city water and ran everything for a while after our first trip with it to get all the air out of the system. Now this trip it’s doing the same thing. No leaks, the pump doesn’t cycle randomly at all. Any ideas?Re: 7.3 Ford gas engineFinally pulled the 5th wheel last week and pulling 11000 lbs running at 70 I got about 8 MPG. It would pull it in 10th just fine but I usually kept it in 8th gear, pulled easier. Thats with a 3.73 rear end.Re: 7.3 Ford gas engineI just got a 2023 F350 with the 7.3 and really like it so far. Only have 4600 miles on it but the 10 speed tranny can't be beat. I have the 3.73 rear end and just finally bought a 5th wheel that weighs about 10K empty. Drop it to 8th gear and it pulls at 70 at around 2100 rpm. Haven't pulled the camper far enough to understand MPG but running empty I usually get 13-14 if commuting to work. Longer runs I've gotten 16 on. I've pulled my 4 place enclosed sled trailer, 5-6K lbs, and it'll get about 10 with that behind it but the nice thing is it pulls so easily compared to my old F150.Re: New Super Duty on orderSo we finally found a 5th wheel we liked and I actually got a chance to pull it. Wow, this thing makes it easy. Pulling approx 10,000 lbs at 70 on the freeway is smooth. Put it in 8th gear and it runs along at about 2100 rpm. So much nicer than pulling a much lighter trailer with my 1/2 ton. First big trip is next weekend!Re: keystone Sprinter quality??So we looked at the trailer today and it was very well taken care of. However when I went on the roof all three slides had the roof membrane pinched and tore so there was a small hole in each one, right in the center at the outer edge. The wood underneath was wet and that was part of the issue with my old camper was a bad roof so I didn’t want to get into that again. We’ll keep looking. Thanks for all the advice.Re: New Super Duty on orderGot the camera issue fixed. There was a short in the coax cable in the harness.keystone Sprinter quality??We are in the process of shopping for a used 5th wheel. We are going to look at a 2017 Keystone Sprinter 297FWRLS. I searched the forums but didn't find much information about the Sprinter model. How are Keystones as far as quality holding up out there? Does anybody have this particular model? I'm a bit jaded on the used market as we really had a bad experience with the last used unit we bought but the new market is a bit out of reach for us right now.
