So SteveAE you think taking 20 out of Sisters then taking 22 is the best? My google maps is cautioning taking 126 due to fires in the area...which we figured there must be fires somewhere since the smoke is thick here in Bend. Thanks for all the assistance. Coming through Burns this morning was interesting. Raining cats & dogs but easy enough! ~krisBurns, OR to the coastTraveling from Burns, OR - Recommendations for taking Hwy 126/Hwy 20 thru Bend to the Oregon coast? Have done in the past, just can't remember if we took Hwy 20 thru Sweet Home or 126 dropping into Eugene. Any suggestions which route would be better...especially given this "tropical storm" may be passing thru the area :R We are a 40' class A towing. Thanks!Re: Route to McCall IdahoThanks to all who replied. We came up 55 and it is beautiful, scenic (and hot). Having a warm spell right now. Hope it quits. And ReneeG - yes, there were some folk who just couldn't wait for a pull out and passed us endangering themselves, the oncoming traffic and us. We are courteous drivers as where we originally come from we traveled 2 lane roads frequently and used every opportunity to pull over for those behind us. We will travel back down to the valley using 95 just to see the difference. Thanks again to all replies. Much appreciated!!Route to McCall IdahoJust curious. Traveling in 40' Class A towing. Which road is easier travel to McCall, Idaho from the Boise area? We are in Mountain Home and will soon be traveling up that way. Is 55 better than US Hwy 95? Thanks for any input!Re: WY to AZ route and stopsWe just left Cody, WY and did a day trip (from Cody) up to the eastern entrance of Yellowstone. Fall colors have already arrived up there and it is beautiful. We were surprised how many tourists were up there. Many of the places to eat were already shut down so take food with you. Cody has some great restaurants (a great BBQ place). There was a light dusting of snow on the upper mountains inside Yellowstone (up by Tower Junction). If they close down the entrance roads due to snow they have flashing yellow signs on Hwy 20 going west that will alert you. When we left Cody we headed south down through Thermopolis (a neat little town). If you take that route south you will travel through the Wind River Canyon which is absolutely beautiful. Lander is a lovely town too! Thru Riverton and Rock Springs following Hwy 191 into Utah (Flaming Gorge) where again the Fall colors are spectacular (already). Wyoming is a beautiful state! Congratulations on your retirement. Relax & Enjoy. Good luck in Phoenix and welcome to the snow bird time of your life ;-) Quartzite is a kick in the pants. Cattail Cove at Lake Havasu (a state park) is great. Oh, and the Grand Canyon - northern entrance may be closed by the time you reach there - but southern entrance is typically open. It's beautiful there when it snows but no fun to drive in. Hope you find your special place in Phoenix. They have a plethora of rv parks! And if you have difficulty right IN Phoenix area search some of the outlying areas - say out by Wickenburg. Travel safe! Enjoy!! Like others have said, Wyoming can get a snow storm early. I've seen it snow in August!Re: Western slopes of ColoradoThanks for input. We decided to go through Moab! Always appreciate the input!Western slopes of ColoradoCurious about Colorado State routes 139 from Rangely to Grand Junction...then continuing south on State Route 141 to Dove Creek and eventually into Cortez and down thru N.M. to I-40. On my maps these roads don't show mountainous but hey it's the backside of some glorious mountains. We are a 40' Class A towing. We try to avoid going through big cities when going south (i.e. Denver and SLC) and have never taken this route. Thanks for any and all assistance!Re: Durango, CO to Baggs, WYThanks guys for all the assistance! Not going to Gunnison so won't worry about construction on Hwy 50. Had heard about the nasty delays. Thanks also for the alternate route idea (145 to 62). Notice that on both of those roads there is notation on my maps of "tunnels". On 145 it looks like "Lizard Head Pass" and on 62 it looks listed as "Dallas Divide". We are 13'2". Any idea of the limitations on those tunnels? Guess I could check Colorado Dept of Transportation/Highways, they may have them listed. BarryG20 may take your suggestion about going one way, coming back the other! See more country. We've traveled some very "interesting" roads on our travels and hubby (driver) is comfortable and accomplished with roads like in the photo. He used to travel code 3 on very curvy roads with no guardrails. I as the "nagivator":) am more the white knuckle rider but enjoy the scenery so won't limit his skills. He'd much rather deal with narrow roads and drop offs than driving through SLC or Denver during rush hour or any time for that matter. Again, thanks for input. Appreciate it!!Durango, CO to Baggs, WYHeading north out of Durango on US 550; catch Hwy 50 at Montrose to Grand Junction, I-70 to Rifle & north on State Rt 13 through Craig to Baggs...any problems? We're 40' diesel pusher hauling. Want to avoid Denver :) Thanks!!Re: Avoid drive thru Salt Lake CityThanks for all the great responses ~ much appreciated. I imagine we'll either attempt it very early on a Sunday morning or take a long road around the whole state. :)
