Off the beaten path and we had no cell service or wi-fi, but the sites are wonderful. Would be extra nice if you have a boat.Re: Liberty Bell Visit-Philadephia ependydad wrote: When we head to tour Philadelphia, I'm going to do the parking lot thing and just stay at: http://campusparkandride.com/rv/ We stayed there last month. It is fine, Keith (who runs it) is a super nice guy. Just keep you expectations low: it is literally a parking lot. But it is secure. The water and electric hookups will be at the very back of your rig so make sure you have enough hose if your water is at the front of your rig like mine is. The wifi doesn't reach the spots further from the office so if that's important to you, plan accordingly. i took the shuttle to the U Penn Hospital bus stop (free) but the bus never came probably due to a lot of construction in that area. I used uber and $3 and 10 mins later I was at Constitution Hall Visitor Center. Everything in that historical center of Philly is very compact and easy to cover on foot once you are down there.Visiting Gettysburg Battlefield Park in RV?We will be passing thru Gettysburg and definitely want to see what we can in a half day. What is RV parking like? I'd much prefer to drop the trailer in the parking lot, drive thru and see everything, then reconnect. Is this feasible? I've looked on the website but can't find any detailed parking info. Thanks!Re: Philly to CT, avoiding NYC ct1964ups wrote: K Charles wrote: jplante4 wrote: texasAUtiger wrote: Like this? https://goo.gl/maps/bYJrW1HKd4m Like my post above, I don't see how to reconnect with i95 any further east in CT. Thanks! You don't need to take I-287 around the corner. Here's the route I've taken several times, weekends and weekdays. Sundays are best I-95 to Woodbridge, Garden State Parkway to I-287, across the Tappan Zee, stay on I-287 which reconnects to I-95 in Port Chester CT. This would be the way to go. I guess the question is where do you want to go in Ct...? I like the above route if it is in southern CT..but if it is farther into Ct like to go to RI...then the above route but stay on 287 after the Tap and go up 684 to 84 then across 84 to your destination ..where evre it is ..then Rt9 to 95 to RI...Chuck Our stop in CT is Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison. Then on to RI.Any warnings on this CT-RI-MA route? This is the default route google gives: CT-RI: https://goo.gl/maps/rMfbaTUP9PP2 RI-MA: https://goo.gl/maps/ZFZgB2Jce8p Thanks in advance.Re: Philly to CT, avoiding NYC jplante4 wrote: texasAUtiger wrote: Like this? https://goo.gl/maps/bYJrW1HKd4m Like my post above, I don't see how to reconnect with i95 any further east in CT. Just for posterity, I'll post the google maps link: https://goo.gl/maps/nvapY2pRXPG2 This is very helpful. I have the next leg of my northeastern route (CT-RI-MA) that I'd appreciate your opinion on, but I'll put that in its own thread.Re: Philly to CT, avoiding NYC jplante4 wrote: NO NO NO!!! DO NOT take the GW Bridge! In addition to terrible traffic issues, there are propane restrictions that require you to be in the proper lane to get on the upper deck. On the other side of the Hudson, the Cross Bronx Expressway and the Bruckner are a maze of construction zones and rough road conditions. There must be at least 100 threads here just in the past year about ways around NYC. Most people go I-95 to the Garden State Pkwy, to the Tappan Zee Bridge to rejoin I-95 west of New Haven. We ran this route a couple of times on Sunday and there was just normal traffic with few backups. Anything much better would seem to require going rather far out of your way. Do not take any of the parkways in Connecticut, even though the Merritt in particular may look inviting on the map. They are restricted to small vehicles only, with good reason. Your RV would not fit through some of the underpasses (besides being excluded by law). Like this? https://goo.gl/maps/gYjaY9tNhb32 I don't see how to dump out onto I95 in CT any farther east. Thanks!Philly to CT, avoiding NYCIn a few weeks we will be in Philadelphia headed to CT (then eventually to Maine): https://goo.gl/maps/yrzeKXeuR952 (NOTE: This is simply was google suggests. I do not plan to zip thru NYC like this. See below in this thread.) I have never driven in this part of the country, much less with a 30' trailer. What's the best way to avoid NYC headaches? We'd be making that leg of the trip on a Sunday in case it matters. Thanks!Re: Anyone heading to Black Hills next week?We arrive in Rafter J on 7/30 for 4 or 5 nights I think. Looking forward to it.
