All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: New tow vehicleAbout a year ago I switched from an F150 to an 2017 F350 diesel 4x4. Felt I was right at the limit of capacity with the 150. Had weight distribution and sway set up before and transferred it all to the new truck. In my opinion- more is always better. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!Re: Slide Topper / Awning IssueThanks for the replies. Found the pin thing online. Talked to a dealer and they suggested cycling it a couple of times. He said the anti-bellows lock should reset itself. He also said not to remove it but get it to a dealer for inspection. I have cycled it and it looks good and snug and seemed to function normally. Wish me luck as we will keep an eye on it heading north. Also will try to stay out of high winds.Slide Topper / Awning IssueHi All I have a problem that I have not seen posted before. My Carefree slide topper is having issues. The other day we were caught in a high wind storm in California. I happened to see out my rearview mirror that one of my toppers was unraveling and blowing in the wind as we were driving. Upon inspection during the trip and upon arrival it appears that something may be broken internally and the anti-billow mechanism has failed. The ends may have also been damaged. It is currently functioning but there is slack in the fabric. While homeward bound I am still about 750 miles and a week from home. It is also to long to go in the back of my pickup. Is this thing worth repairing? Can it fail completely and cause damage? Suggestions ThanksRe: New Diesel PULooks like I will get it Monday or Tuesday. Already planning to get some miles on in so I will be ready to go south in December. Thanks again for the responses. DukecRe: New Diesel PUThanks for the input and most of the comments - “make friends with a Cummins guy “!!New Diesel PUWell. I finally did it! Stepped up an ordered a new F350 Crew 4x4 6.7 pickup. Ordered because it has to be brought in from Idaho. Bought it thru a local Ford dealer after doing a bunch of searching on the interwebs for one set up the way I wanted it. Got a good price but not great one. Anyway never having owned or driven a diesel pickup before is there any thing I should do right away besides drive and enjoy? Any thing to be aware of? We will be heading to SoCal and AZ in about 6 weeks with it and our TT for a few months.Long and short of itCan you please give me the pros and cons of short and long bed 1 tons? I am looking at new trucks and shorts seem to be more prevalent. I pull a bumper pull travel trailer and don't know that I would ever change to a 5. ThanksRe: 4 wheel driveThanks to everyone for all the comments. I just don't feel like giving my hard earned retirement dollars to the dealers or manufacturers. Had multiple trucks thru the years and never had 4 wd. We do get some snow here in the winter but I plan to be south - way south when it flys. Still thinking F350 gas is the ticket!Re: 4 wheel driveThanks for all the responses. I like gas engines although I have been thinking diesel. Have no plans to pull a 40 ft 5th wheel - ever. So a 2 wheel gaser 350 might be the ticket. Could save the money as well as the weight.4 wheel driveAll I have a question concerning 4x4 trucks and why I would want one. I will be looking for a new 1 ton truck that will replace my F150 tow vehicle. Everywhere I look at dealer lots and inventory all I see is 4x4s. In the prevailing thought is this better from a towing standpoint? Or is this the dealer and manufacturer conspiring to get more of my cash? I currently have a bumper pull trailer that my 150 can and does pull but I feel right at the line. I have no interest in boondocking or using the truck for anything off road. I know the dealers harp on resale value but I am buying it for me not the next guy. Appreciate you thoughts much. Dukec
