Some of the SLX models appear to be stripped down Jay Flight campers. The SLX 287BHSW appears identical to the Jay Flight 28BHBE, but the GVWR on the SLX is 7,500 compared to 9,250 for the Jay Flight. They are probably putting lighter duty axles on the SLX to meet the desired price point. That extra weight capacity on the Jay Flight helps to accommodate the bigger tanks and more cargo carrying capacity making that a more desirable product line. Personally I would look for a Jay Flight model that has a GVWR that fits your truck.Re: Jayco or Primetime?Your van appears to be pretty capable. What is the payload capacity of it (yellow sticker shows it). Look at the Jayco Jay Flight 29QBS. This model has a 2,565 lbs CCC - 1,200 lbs is nothing. It would also provide better sleeping capacity than the two you asked about. Those take bunks away to add sofas and outdoor kitchens.Re: What To Do With These WiresOur trailer uses purple and white wires for one of the speaker channels for the audio system. That may be what you have here if the stereo is installed near here.Re: How to stay warmLots of good information in this thread. This is a little off the original topic, but It would also be smart to "be prepared" when camping in the cold. Bring cold weather sleeping bags and a bunch of chemical hand warmers. That way, if something happens to the energy supply (propane runs out, CG power goes down, etc.) you can get through the night without being miserable.Re: Good Park near Louisville, KYCharlestown State Park in Southern Indiana is probably the best choice if you like the State Park atmosphere. Some sites have full hookups.Chevy 2500 HD - ECM update?Hi everyone. I have a 2500 HD that is 1.5 years old. I do all of my own maintenance, and have never taken the truck back to the dealer. I read on another post that Ford may update the ECM on their Super Duty trucks in a way that improves fuel mileage. Does anyone know if Chevy does a similar update on their HD trucks? Is there any other reason I should get it into the dealer?Re: Slide Topper on a Rear Slide Chris Bryant wrote: Pay attention to the slack in the cables- they need to be fairly well adjusted, and if they get frayed, replacement before they break is much easier than after. You can find the service manual and adjustment procedures at http://www.norcoind.com/bal/products/oem/accuslide/index.shtml. Worth printing out and keeping. Chris, thank you for this link.Re: Slide Topper on a Rear Slide Chris Bryant wrote: 40" is the normal max projection. I believe most rear slides are deeper. Thanks. I hadn't thought of that. Our rear slide is probably 60" long. It does function differently as well. Our side slide is gear actuated, but the rear one is cable actuated. I don't think that matters, but the depth surely does. Thanks again...Re: GMC/Chevy HD gasser questionI really love our 2500HD. We tow a 7,000 lb. travel trailer or a 6,000 lb. utility trailer. There is no question that it can tow more. It is comfortable when pulling all day and is stable around big rigs and in reasonable wind when towing. Usually we just use tow/haul mode on the trans and keep the speed at 60. It could tow faster but this speed seems to be the sweet spot where it is most comfortable for me with our rig. We have pulled our TT over the Appalachians twice and the only driving adjustment has been to manually shift the gears and to duck in with the big rigs and keep the speed to 45 or so. We haven't pulled up the big mountains out west but would not hesitate to do so. I would also not hesitate to tow heavier as long as we could stay within the numbers. Our yellow payload sticker says we have 2,875 lbs of payload. With our family of 4 and the stuff we carry we probably wouldn't run out until the trailer is over 10,000 lbs. Our configuration is a 6.0, 4.10 diff, 6 speed tranny, 4x4 with factory towing mirrors and a topper that sticks up a little above the cab. It isn't designed for gas mileage. Most of my driving is around town and overall I'm averaging about 11.5. Towing we get the same as others have noted, 7.5 to 8.5.Slide Topper on a Rear SlideHas anyone here ever installed a slide topper on a rear slide? How did it fit and work? We have a KZ Spree 289KS with a rear bed slide. We are trying to reduce or eliminate the water getting in when we close up in the rain.
