The previous owner had a new fridge installed in this really well kept unit. The re and re appears to have been done by enlarging the hole through the roof where the fridge roof vent is. Whoever did the job used 3 or 4 pieces of rubber roof to seal the hole rather than one solid piece. The pieces of roofing are overlapping and well sealed with Dicor and appear to be in good condition, but my neighbor is a bit concerned. My take is that it is a bit unorthodox, but I would treat it like any other joint on the roof-keep an eye on it and reseal with Dicor whenever cracks appear. What do you think?Re: Tires LT 225/75R16 load range EI also like Michelins, use them on almost all my vehicles, but needed to replace tires on my class c before a big trip in 2014 and Michelins were very hard to find due to the recall mentioned above so I bought Toyo HT's. VERY happy with them and, like the M's, they are winter rated so legal for winter trips.Re: Downsides of Towing? Newbie concernsWe have had pop ups, TC's TT's and 4 years ago we bought a small 21 ft Class C (24 ft bumper to bumper) so we would not need to tow. However, on our first major trip, a month in Utah, we often would have liked to have had a small 4x4 to go exploring back roads and do some off road. So I sold an F150 I rarely used and bought a 2003 Tracker 4 door and set it up for towing. We just got back from our first trip, 5 weeks in Yukon and Alaska. We towed the Tracker 9500 kms and put on another 1500 exploring with it. Easy to tow, about a 1 mpg penalty in gas mileage. MH is on a Chev 3500 chassis with the 6.0. I found I could back up a bit. If we couldn't find a drive through camp site, we would drive straight in with toad attached. If everything lined up straight, I could back out. With my back up camera, I can tell when the toad front wheels start going sideways, just a quick few feet forward to get it back in line then continue backing up. We also found that my wife could walk beside the toad and hold on to the steering wheel through the window and that helped. You do need to be backing in a straight line, otherwise it is easier to just unhook, which is easy if you have a good towbar. Another hint: I found it easier to hook up when on a slight uphill grade. That way I could release the e brake on the toad and roll it backward until one or both tow bar arms locked, turn wheels to unlocked arm and drive MH forward gently. Worked great. All in all, towing a toad was definitely worth it.Re: Chevy 2500 HD 6.0 questionTry some Water Wetter or other brand coolant additive, I think I used Royal Purple Ice, made a difference in my Class C with the 6.0Demco Excali-bar adviceI have a chance to buy for a good price a used Demco Excali-bar. I think this is the original model, not the the Excali-bar II. Any advice regarding this model? It is to occasionally tow a 2003 Tracker. I am a little concerned about how to release the lock collar - you need to have the tool? What if you lose it? I am going to see it today.Re: Wired rear view cameraCostco online carries a wired system with a quick disconnect designed for trailers. I have the same system without the disconnect on my class C and it works very well. I stayed away from wireless because, at the time, there were many bad reviews.Re: Is this even possible? How long will you be there? Will you need air cond? If only for a few days, make sure water tank is full and black and grey tanks empty, and use a regular ext cord to plug in, with an adapter, or find a 30 amp extension cord. Lots of people have them and they are not too expensive, that way you will be able to use A/C. Just use a longer water hose to hook up to hose bib if you feel the water tank would not be enough. I wouldn't bother with extension sewer hoses. When grey or black tanks get full, unplug elec (and water hose, if used) and turn the motor home around, dump tanks and fill water tank and then set it up again. That is the beauty of class c's, easy to move.Re: Launching a boat with only side mirrors for field of viewLots of good ideas here. What I did: got 2 driveway markers( like this: https://images11.palcdn.com/hlr-system/Thumbnails/42/420/4200/4200187.jpg which are a round red reflector on about a 3 foot rod. Found some vinyl tube the rod would fit in snugly, hose clamped the tube to back of boat trailer. Slide the driveway marker in all the way so reflector is snug to trailer while traveling, pulled out marker so I could see the reflector in the mirrors at the boat launch. Worked great and got lots of positive comments from other boaters and RV'ers. That was with my TC. Now I have a Class C and use a Rear View Safety (Costco) camera with a 7 in monitor that I wired to be on all the time so I can see back there while driving. Works great.Re: Adding a Roof Vent Fan in a vent where there is noneIn my experience with TC's, TT's and a class C, most vents have been pre wired whether they had a fan or not from the factory. Take the trim off and dig around in the insulation.Re: Maiden voyage success - question about grey water tanksAll of the above suggestions and... We found a plastic tub that fits perfectly in the kitchen sink. We just dump the tub in the toilet when finished dishes. Black tank rarely gets full. If you are planning on dumping your grey water on the ground (only do so when you are sure it is allowed and you will not offend anyone) try this. Get a sewer cap with the garden hose fitting. Take a plastic kitchen scrubber (the green rectangular ones, about 1/2 inch thick work well) and cut it to fit inside the cap. I stuck a piece of velcro on the inside of the cap to hold it in place. The pad acts as a filter and removes all food particles and much of the soapy suds, the two things that I find rather disgusting when I pull into a campsite where somebody has dumped their grey water. Use a length of garden hose to direct the grey water to an inconspicuous spot, like under a shrub. When the pad filter gets grungy, toss and replace.
