The jacknife was one of those cheapies over a mostly tubelar frame. We didn't need it as a double so I singled it and made use of the wasted space behind the couch as the walls of our rig slope in towards the top. I just used pine boards which I had. And for sleeping Moderator edit to re-size picture to forum limit of 640px maximum size. Re: B+ motorhomesThanks Orion, and yes I agree, it's much better looking and fitting. By trying to get the most aisle room with the JK couch the back always interfered with the day/night shades now there's room for the shades to be lowered all the way. there's less storage room beneath but it's certainly more orderly. DW has MS so it's been getting more difficult for her to store her clothes. Previously she used the cabinets above the couch now she can use the drawers. Haven't thought about what the cabinets will be used for as yet Cheers Willey Cabinets above couch Click--> Re: B+ motorhomes J&A wrote: Hope you are having a great season. It's been a good year, but there wasn't enough time for enjoying the RV. It took a lot of time to do the couch and there were times I thought I really goofed, believe me there were many corrections to the frame work before I was on the road to finishing it. Yep did it all myself (except for the brown covering) between the shopping, preparing meals and walking the dog etc. Probably average about 2 hours per day so it took most of my summer, but a promise is a promise and I'm glad it's done. Stay safe during the storm. it wasn't much of a storm where we live, it rarely is. Hopefully the heat and humidity is past it was much too hot for NS weather this year. What is the width of the sleeping area when deployed. It's a little over 26 inches wide verses the 19" width of the JK, so DW is very happy.(she would have been happy with a 23" width, She doesn't flop around like I do when sleeping. I have more photos of during the build, truly it's a compromise from beginning to end because of the inward slope of the walls, the higher you go the less sleeping width you'll have. Also the depth of the drawers will be shorter the wider the sleeping area is. DW wanted her night table kept, so the (bed) aisle width and couch height were fixed to be the same as the JK couch. Now! if you're crazy enough to try this I'll pass on the info and what to do to stay away from some of the design problems. Anyway I can take measurements off mine, so the worst part is over. :B Cheers Willey must have been sleepy last night "bed" changed to "aisle"Re: B+ motorhomes John & Angela wrote: We have acheived as high as 14 on Mexican Interstates at 88 KMH and as low as 7 in the mountains of Oaxaca. Been awhile since we jawed a bit. We'll be on the road for a short one next week if all goes well. The tropical storm passed through today and hopefully that's the end to those high temps 106F was the top for 3 days then it cooled to 102. That's not NS type weather and no way we want to be dry camping in it. Haven't been out this year other than one day at Lansdowne park (L.O.R.D.A), was going to put in a week camping there but it got too hot. Tossed out the JK couch and built a replacement couch/bed in it's place that's wide enough to sleep on. No matter, can't see it unless it's setup sleeping. Cheers Willey ex. RCAF tech also :BRe: What did you do to your Class C MH today???Well first of all I got the fridge working on gas again, igniter problem cleaned out a bit of rust, seems OK now. Removed the jack knife couch, I plan to build a new couch capable of decent storage underneath (drawers etc.) deep enough for a decent single bed (we never used the double function). I don't have a plan yet, just an idea. Probably lots of tears before this is done. I moved the seat in ours back a few inches and that worked out ok for us. WillisRe: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Hi Tim, Nice catch on the even heating of the element. This now causes me to wonder if I replaced the heater in our reefer needlessly as the one I removed is evenly discolored up to the bend. http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e395/WilleyB/?action=view¤t=Heater-08.jpg I wish Dometic had come clean about this from the start, it's possible that the only units truly affected were those with heat concentrated in localized areas. That being the case all the would have to do was examine the heating element to see if it was defective. I guess the last thing to find out is how many of the failed units had elements with the heat concentrated in one area. WillisRe: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07 bigdodgeram wrote: I was wondering, I do not use propane to run my refer, electric only (most of the time) Hi, if you read and understand the posts in this thread you'll realize that propane is not the reason for the failure. Running on propane exclusively it would be doubtful if you'd experience this failure. It would seem now from a previous post, that older units came complete with the shielding that is now offered as a fix ( in reality not a fix but a means to prevent a fire should the piping rupture from metal fatigue) The real reason for the failure of the cooling system is the underrated 120 volt electrical heating elements. IF the measured resistance of the 120 volt element in your unit is below 40 ohms, I would replace it OR use a voltage corrective device (light dimmer rheostat) as suggested in previous posts to compensate for the overpowering of the element. In any case I'd definitely have the modification done and be thankful you haven't had a failure yet. I wonder how much they saved by eliminating the housing as compared what it cost them to do their "new" fix. Seems to me they did a neater installation in the past when compared to the pieces they put in mine mine. Click--> Willis
