At a minimum marine grade should be used in floors. The industry got the public hooked on pretty with low pricing. We see one thread after another on soft floors, mold etc. It's all metal top to bottom for me. Metal RV's leak and/or trap moisture just the same as wood built. Both will also rot out the same. The answer is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. Keep your TT sealed and dry and it will not rot be it made from metal or wood.Re: Coffe pot for boondockingI use that same Coleman coffee pot when camping with others but when I am by myself I use a 4 cup electric on an inverter. Works great and everyone doesn't hear a thing. When out hunting in the fall we make cowboy coffee...you boil coffee grounds. Take off heat and add a little cold water to make the grounds sink then drink....strong mmmmmRe: Canada Highway 1 in B.C.there are 7 tunnels. All are two lanes, wide enough for tractor trailers so you will be fine. There are some interesting places to stop at in the Fraser Canyon as well. Hell's Gate is a good stop if looking for a little break. During the summer it gets really hot and windy thru the Canyon so make sure your rig's cooling system is in good shape if you are traveling thru then.Re: Towing Capacity for New Travel TrailerThis is my opinion only others might not agree. The loaded weight of your trailer is the number you should pay attention to not dry weight (I like to estimate by taking dry curb + 2000lbs not GVWR asthe manufacturers are usualy out to lunch on GVWR). It is easy to add 1500 - 2000lbs to a trailer once you add water (8.36lbs per gallon...50 gallon tank = 418lbs) propane (2 x 30 = 108lbs - empty tank is 24lbs) food, booze and all the other **** a family would like to bring (the more people the more weight). Then look at the towing rate of truck. IMO don't go over 70% if you want to stay happy. your Tongue weight is usually about 10% of your trailer weight if you load it right. Tongue weight has to fit into total CCC of your truck including driver and all other **** that goes into the box. All this being said IN MY OPINION ONLY I would not like to put more than 7000 to MAX 7500 loaded weight behind my 1/2 tonne truckRe: Mice ProofingElectric cable that pushes into trailer for storage is biggest entry point. highway, bridge and open door for mice. Replace it with a detachable cable. .Re: Newbie: Mirrors/cameras for truck/trailer?I got a pair of aftermarket tow mirrors from 1a auto for my 150. At the time they were only about $150. They have heat, signals and electric adjust just like factory. The only downside is that they are bigger than factory mirrors even when pushed in. Makes parking at the mall fun. Have to limbo under them when getting out sometimes.Re: Hi everyone! looking for help picking a new camperMy advise would be to find the floor plan that will work best for your needs, then find a manufacturer. Lastly find a place to buy it. Repairs and warranty do not have to be done where it is purchased. Thor Industries is by far the largest RV Manufacturing Group out there incompasing many of the brands manufactured in the east. Google them and you will be surprised of who they own. I personaly like a couple brands located in the Pacific Northwest. They are Northwood which has Arctic Fox and Desert Fox, Nash and Outdoor RV which has Creekside and Timber Ridge as well as other models. These companies are all owned by the same family. The main reason to look at them starts with their frames which they make in house unlike most others that use LCI (Lippert) frames. If you google LCI (Lippert) frames problems you will be shocked at the volume. They are made for the climate that you reside in so the ones they make for us in the North West are 4 season trailers. I will be replacing my TT with a Creekside in the next couple years.Re: Coachmen Freedom Express 246RKS hppytrls wrote: I started this thread asking if anyone had experience with a Coachmen 246 Rks. I received some nice constructive feedback, and I thank all who contributed. Today I bought the coachmen 248RBS. A thorough inspection revealed a bathroom heating duct not connected, the manual slide houdigit was not connected. Both were fixed before signing papers. All else looked good. Once again thank you to all for advice and assistance. Steve. Congrats on your new rig. Just a note make sure that every spring and fall you check all the sealant (roof and walls, all openings) Manufacturers are notoriously light on sealant. Roof vent covers really help as well. Maintanance twice a year should give you many years of dry leak free enjoyment. Good luck and Happy CampingRe: Coachmen Freedom Express 246RKS mikakuja wrote: My apologies to the OP for getting caught up in frivolous arguments. This will be my last post in this thread as it has gone IMO way off topic for no reason at all.. Actually SoundGuy, I did not mention end caps at all in that statement, I simply stated that they used Azdel in their walls. And if you refer to my original reply I also stated that one should do their own research and draw their own conclusions. In the future how about posting my whole statement instead of just the parts you want to argue about so that everything can be taken in context.... You have done this to me and others in this thread as well as other threads. Weather you mean to or not you are coming across as being a Troll. Here is the definition Click here X2 Well saidRe: Coachmen Freedom Express 246RKSI want it to be known that I am not putting down wood frame construction. My TT is all wood frame which is was a good thing when it came to rebuilding it and modifications that I have made. Wood stick framing will last a long time if the owner is very diligent about maintenance and keeping everything sealed. I will post my repairs and modifications soon so that you all can see.....
