The wait is gonna suck though. You may want to consider changing your order to 4:10 gears. There is no downside to 4:10's and I actually get a tad bit better mileage empty and towing with 4:10 than I did with 3:73 gearsRe: air pin boxI have had the Fifth Airborne since 2009. Really cushions the ride. Would never pull another fifth wheel without one.Re: Tow haul and overdriveNo, tow/haul does not lock out overdrive on any GM or Ram truck, at least. Tow/haul only changes your shift points on the transmission. If your truck normally shifts into overdrive at, lets say 55 MPH, in tow/haul mode you may need to hit 60-65 before it shifts into overdrive.Re: New 5th wheel doesn't tow well Passin Thru wrote: BULL! Put Airlift airbags on the rear and Firestone airshocks on the front and measure the ht of your Truck from tire to fender. Hook up and air up until they are back to the height they were before and drive it. Call it chucking if you want, it's bucking, shocks aren't heavy enough to stop it so it goes down to the stops and then bounces again I know it will alleveaite the problem. I'm on my 3rd pickup with 5th wheel and airride. I have never had 1 problem with airride in 15 years. I don't know why someone who didn't put airride on the front would tell you it doesn't work. (Chevy 2500 Duramax Allison 6spd 420 Hp.) Chucking is aword thrown around by amateurs who own TTs and it isn't even in the dictionary. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/chuck . Bull is right. Shocks and airbags will do nothing to correct chucking, as it is not an up/down movement of the truck but rather a fore/aft movement. Adjusting pin weights will do absolutely nothing to prevent chucking. The issue is more predominant on concrete highways due to the crack line/expansion joints being evenly spaced. The only way to resolve a chucking issue is to install a cushioned pin box or hitch, or to try a different tow vehicle and/or trailer configuration.Re: New 5th wheel doesn't tow wellInstalling airbags will do absolutely nothing to prevent this problem. The issue is not due to bouncing up and down, it is due to fore/aft movement of the trailer and tow vehicle, called chucking. There are many variable that contribute to this, such as length and weight of trailer, wheelbase of tow vehcile, etc. If you experience this condition, your choices are to either find a different trailer and/or truck configuration, or install an air ride or absorbing hitch such as a 5th airborne or mor ryde pin box. 5th Airborne Mor RydeRe: rear axle gear ratio tinner12002 wrote: 4x4ord wrote: tinner12002 wrote: Go with 4.10s and don't fall for the hype of getting better fuel mileage with the 3.73 because you'll likely not see a difference. With the new trucks they are geared to nearly the same high gear for mileage. I'd also recommend getting the Aisin trans if they have it. Just my opinion. What do you mean by stating "with the new trucks they are geared to nearly the same high gear for mileage"? The difference between the 3.73 and the 4.10 trucks, and I'm referring to trucks in the last 3-4 years, I drove was as close as I could tell, 150rpm, not enough to make a significant difference in MPG even as calculated. 3.73s give up about 5-6K pounds of tow capacity also. You can tow with any ratio you want but in my opinion the 4.10s are the way to go. On a straight and level road at 55mph my truck empty will get 22-24mpg and have seen it as high as 25. Hand calculated vs comp was only .5 mpg off so I've checked both ways. There is no way in hell you are getting 22-24 MPG with a dually truck, unless the straight and level is downhill all the way.Re: Duramax transamz9 wrote: GA1dad wrote: When you're cruising at 75 mph,,,,passing everyone,,, uphill,,, with camper in tow,,,, and you look down and notice the rpm's are at 1800,,,, you say to yourself "Self, buying a Duramax dually was a good decision". If you had bought a Cummins you could be doing it at 1600 RPM. Just sayin'. I have had both a duramax and now 2 cummins trucks. My Cummins has 4:10 gears turning 2100-2200 RPM's to do the same thing the duramax does at 1800.Re: Pickup trucks headlights evaluatedFor those of you with the Ram trucks that have the projector housing, convert them to HID lights. Light output is literally 3 times better. The factory HIR bulbs put out 1100 lumens of light. The HID lights put out about 3500 lumens. I was very disappointed with the factory lights on both my 13 and my new 17 Ram until I added this kit. HID KitRe: Ram Mega CabI have no issues pulling my toy hauler, although I do use a superglide hitch, no concerns of ever busting my back window. I had 3:73 gears in my 2013 Ram mega dually. My 2017 Ram mega dually, I ordered with 4:10 gears. The 4:10 gears pull better and I actually get better fuel mileage empty and towing than I did with my last truck.
