Thanks for your route suggestions as we are new to this! We usually travel the I-5 til Longview, Washington, then head over to the coast and travel down the 101 until around Santa Rosa, then cut across to the I-5, travel down to Bakersfield and head east on 58. We like to stay at the Orange Grove RV Park outside Bakersfield as it is unique and a good stopping place. Our route is slower but beautiful and we mostly avoid the traffic of the I-5 and weather in the mountains.Re: Oregon State Parks to add surcharge TUCQUALA wrote: AFHauler, the $5 fee is only when making a reservation for non-residents. Many states have such. It is not added to the daily camping charge. Maybe a minor difference, but not like OR adding up to 30% per day for non-residents!! I believe that when we went into BC a few years ago, we had to pay non-resident fees at both Nat Parks and BC Provincial Parks. We weren't complaining about the fee. It's a beautiful continent we all live in and we 'were' lucky to be able to enjoy it. Hopefully we can do it again soon.Re: Oregon State Parks to add surcharge TUCQUALA wrote: ksg5000, WA parks DO NOT (at this time!!) charge "extra" to non-residents!! They have various levels according to services and seasons. There is a charge for the "Discover Pass" to access day use areas and some other parks, but it is not charged for or required when paying for a campsite. If you are an oldie, you probably remember the fee wars of the '70s and early '80s when a whole bunch of states charged extra for non-residents. It was Oregon that started the war!!! When we made reservations last year to stay at Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington in December 2019 we were charged $5.00 as a "non-resident recreation fee". We have been charged this fee whenever we made a reservation in Washington for several years now.Re: How to clean the toilet flap thing... dcason wrote: It has stains on it....want to douse it with bleach but do not want to open up can of worms for hubby to fix the seal. He hates plumbing. Any ideas...I did use clorox clean up beach to no avail...it works great on white sinks though if you let it sit for 10 minutes. We have used paper towel with plain baking soda with some water to make a paste. It cleans the bowl real nice, too. Just be sure not to drop the paper towel into the holding tank.Re: Splendide XC Combo oiling our clothes?Page 15 of our instruction manual says to never use fabric softener sheets so we never have. It also mentions using a bio-friendly brand of liquid softener. We had never read that before so maybe that would make a difference with spotting. We had just used Downey before.Re: Splendide XC Combo oiling our clothes? bob b wrote: We have been concerned about the oil spots on our lighter colored clothes and wondering where we got them. Our latest wash cycle oil spotted the back of my favorite white shirt and I know it had to be from the washer. Any ideas? Bob We have found that fabric softener often leaves a deposit on the clothes. We got tired of having to rewash clothes so we stopped using Downey or anything and just use some dryer balls for static control, if necessary. PS We have been using our Splendide for 5 years now.Re: Vancouver BC teeznu wrote: Would appreciate a park suggestion that has a nice view of the river or a scenic overlook. Trying to surprise the DW. (get my drift) All suggestions are appreciated in advance. Now for me, a 1/2 day of Salmon fishing would be great. Late Fathers Day present. Thanks to all. You might try Fort Langley (https://www.fortcamping.com/) or Porteau Cove Provincial Park (http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/porteau/).Re: Temporary Cell Phone Service in Canada docsouce wrote: I called Mobility.Petro-canada and AT&T. They both have what I'm looking for, Mobility.Petro-canada being the less expensive one. Does anyone know which service has better coverage for the area we will be traveling in? The above post got me thinking that the Canadian service might be better for me because we are going to be traveling all over the place.. Our main cell-phone is through Rogers and this past summer we spent 4 months travelling to the Maritimes and back to BC, including Quebec and Newfoundland. We had very few places the phone didn't work. Petro-Canada seems to piggy-back on the Rogers network.Re: Temporary Cell Phone Service in CanadaTry Petro-Canada Mobility (mobility.petro-canada.ca), prepaid, no contract. If you have an unlocked phone, you can just buy their sim card and put it in your phone for the duration of your trip.Re: Black Tank Problems dvitale300 wrote: Hi, On the road boon docking right now. Emptied black tank before leaving. Indicator is working correctly, but there appears to be a large clump of paper visible when you look down into the toilet. Since we're on the road - is there anything I can do? Would pouring some boiling water into the toilet help? We're inside of an even and don't have dumpling facilities. Thanks Over the years we have had this problem several times - not often, but enough to be familiar with it. We keep a metal clothes hanger in the closet for this purpose. It has been straightened out somewhat and we use it to 'knock down' the pile, then add some more water. It is easy to clean the hanger with some bathroom cleaner and a paper towel, then put it back in it's plastic bag and the closet for next time. Just one of the things we have to do when enjoying the life.
