I just finished my yearly winter trip of 2,000 miles each way. 2012 F 250... 2 wheel drive 6.2L Gas.. with 3.73 gears 1,500 pounds in bed of truck. and pull a travel trailer that's 9,000 and change pounds. total rolling weight of 18,000 pounds ( cat scaled )/ my truck has 159,000 miles... and have made this trip several times now and drive train had never been repaired... RGV is crowded around McAllen... east or west ..not so much October is Find with space... but by December.. it might not be so easy.. I spent the past 2 winters in Mission, Texas and will return next fall. if you plan to stay a month or more..
