I was towing my fifth wheel which has a 10 yr permit. I have a BC License for the truck, a GMC 3500HD which lists both Net wt. (3350kg) and Gross Wt. (5600kg). They said I was over weight as I "weighed" over the limit of 3500kg. No discussion. They sent me to the Aduana office next door, the Aduana officer walked out the truck and verified that the window VIN matched the VIN on the Truck License. We went back to his office where he filled out some paper work and sent me back to the Banjercito office. The TIP was issued with out further delay. The whole process took about 2 hours from start to finish. Just my experience. Everyone was very cordial.Re: The weight issue againIn answer to your original question, I have always crossed at Lukeville/Sonoyta and get my permits at San Emeterio Aduana (20 km east of Sonoyta) en-route to San Carlos. Last trip down (Nov 2019), I was driving a 2009 Silverado 2500HD with a 9200 GVWR. I have never had a problem getting permits. I am always pulling my fifth wheel so I can't speak about any problems concerning getting the trailer permit without it being with you. I do recall that they were using a digital camera to take photo's of the window VIN tag and Door sticker on the tow vehicle and I do recall them photographing the VIN tag on my Trailer. Also note that as of Nov 2019 they did not issue Tourist Visa's at San Emeterio but you had to get it at the border crossing. I have always stopped at Why Az the day before and I would drive down to the border and walk across to pick up my Tourist visa ahead of time. There is virtually no parking on the Mexican side of the border crossing for a single rig, much less a group.San Emeterio Aduana - SonoytaHi, I just wanted to let others know about a potential issue stopping here. I crossed at Lukeville/Sonoyta headed south towards San Carlos on Dec 28 and stopped at San Emeterio to get my TIP. I have a pickup pulling small fifth wheel. I want to say up front that there was no problem with the very brief customs inspection or doing the paperwork for the TIP. Everyone was friendly and courteous and that all went smoothly. My problem was of my own making! As I have read others doing, I pulled into the AutoBus entrance as that has more room to park while getting your TIP. Also the Auto Entrance is a little tight to line up and pull through the scanners. Once in the Bus entrance you have a single lane between two concrete curbs that make several turns before approaching the Bus parking area. I got about 3/4 of the way in and was stopped by one of the security personnel and was made to back out all the way onto the highway and to enter the Auto entrance. There was no further hassle, they just wanted me to come in the correct entrance! I was thankful that I didn't have a bus pull in behind me while trying to back out.Re: RV Park in Hermosillo? That is as I expected, thanks for the confirmation.RV Park in Hermosillo? There used to be an RV park on the north side of Hermosillo on Hwy. 15. Does anyone know if it is still open? If not, can someone recommend a Pemex for an overnight stay in the vicinity. We have made the trip south many times, but have never stopped in Hermosillo. Thanks.Re: Sonoyta /Lukeville crossingAs a follow up to my previous entry, I have uploaded my dashcam video of my stop at the Sonoyta Aduana to return my truck and Trailer TIP’s showing the facility and how I entered and exited. The video is in 4X speed to reduce the length. Video: https://youtu.be/dWe8Y3mv9y0 After reviewing my Dashcam footage there wide turnaround place at GPS: 31.68986, -112.84434 , about 4-5 minutes north from the customs office where long rigs could easily turn around.Re: Sonoyta /Lukeville crossingThe exit from the facility is three lanes wide and approaches the highway at a 45 degree angle. There is enough room to turn left and head north.Re: Sonoyta /Lukeville crossingDriving by Piquito, it looked abandoned. No signs of activity, no vehicles of any kind. As far as doing the u-turn, there are several gravel places on the right side of the road where trucks have pulled off and parked. That is where I pulled off and turned. I have a fifth wheel that is 40' overall with the truck. I have never driven a big rig so I am not familiar with your tuning radius. YMMV. Worst case, drive on to Sonoyta and turn around. Side note: A friend of mine went through the day before and entered using the bus entrance to return his permits. Again no problems and there may be more room to maneuver once inside the facility.Re: Sonoyta /Lukeville crossingI can confirm that the Banjercito office 30 km south of Sonoyta is open for business. I drove from San Carlos to Ajo today (Sat Feb 24) and had no problems returning my Truck and Trailer TIP's. Going Northbound drive past the building on your left and do a U-Turn to head back south (easy to do). Drive in the entrance marked for Passenger Cars (There are separate ones also for Trucks and Busses). Go through the autodeclaration lanes, then the Customs Agent will show you where to park and will direct you into the building to the Banjercito office. I was in and out in 5 minutes.Re: New trailer, on line new 10 year TIP problemI had this same exact problem last year. There was no problem with the Truck TIP, but Banjercito would not let me process my Trailer TIP as it thought the previous years had not been cancelled. It was and I had the receipt. Aduana showed it as having been cancelled. I ended up getting the new TIP done at Nogales KM21 with no problem or questions.
