Trusting a dealer to do the PDI.....not a good idea. Welcome to RV manufacturing in 2017. My 2017 Rockwood Roo had numerous roof caulking issues which I found before the purchase. You could fix all those issues yourself and save the aggravation with about $20 of material. Some solvent and a tube of lap sealant for the roof, a tube of clear or black caulk for the Diamond Plate trim. They did not give me an option to be at the PDI. I got a pickup/walkthrough time slot and that was it. I probably could have pushed it but I didn't.Re: New Jayco Whitehawk sealsI stopped by the dealer and told them I would do it myself and they gave me a free tube of caulk. I will probably buy a roll of Eternabond and redo all the seals. Last trailer (that we bought used) died from a water leak in the back corner. I couldn't find any obvious signs of leaks but there was obviously one somewhere! I'll be a lot more anal with this one. I showed the dealer the pic of the rear roof seal. They said it didn't look like a problem but since it is new and under warranty I should probably bring it back and let them inspect. Everything looks sealed up with the exception of the part that the sealant failed and I can't tell where any water intrusion would have happened without actually pulling the entire black piece off and pulling up the roof membrane... which I'm not going to do on a new unit. Interestingly enough it looks like plain clear silicon caulk that they used at that junction. Haven't decided if I will just recaulk it or take it down the dealer for them to inspect. Would hate to recaulk it and then some problem comes up later in the life.New Jayco Whitehawk sealsPicked up a new 2017 closeout Whitehawk from a dealer over the weekend. Was looking at it in my driveway and noticed the following oversights in whatever PDI the dealer did when I was not there. In full disclosure, I did not look on the roof at the dealer when we did the walk through. Corner bad caulk https://www.dropbox.com/s/hz5c9fa0ir6heza/corner.jpg Sunroof obvious hole https://www.dropbox.com/s/gntlket3un1ppxs/sunroof.jpg Rear roof, looks like a gaping problem to me, is the roof even sealed here? https://www.dropbox.com/s/5yulmf4bpb6ap0e/back.jpg Diamond plate, cant tell if there is sealant here. Should there be? https://www.dropbox.com/s/gmsjkmtbpi34csk/frontplate.jpg Going back to the dealer with pics this week sometime.Water Pump won't prime, suggestions? We own a 2007 Nash travel trailer we purchased last year. We have never used the pump (always used campground water) Well, I was testing the pump the other day and it doesn't prime. I can't get it to prime on a tank full of water nor can I get it to prime by putting the "winterizing tube" in a bucket of water and using that as my water source. The pump also sounds "less loud" than I am used to RV Pumps sounding. Is there any way to check the pump or should I give up and buy a new one? I'm guessing the pump is 7+ years old.Re: stuck couplerMine does this occasionally, I believe its mostly because of the pad my trailer sits on is not level with the driveway I back the truck up to. Usually I hit it with a hammer. If that doesn't work I press the gas gently in forward and reverse then slam on the brakes immediately. If I do that a few times it will generally always jar the ball loose.Re: Funny A$$ video on how NOT to back a camper,, LOLThat's painful to watch but we all make mistakes in where we go... I was traveling through Oregon once and went through Bend. My kids were tired and restless so I decided to find a park. Having only a very vague knowledge of Bend I looked up parks on the navigation and went to the nearest one. The kids were cranky so I wasn't really paying attention... but after pulling off the main road it was "no turning back" until we got to the end. The park road winded back through trees to a oval loop next to a river. The loop was filled with cars. There was no place to do a trailer "12 point" turn around. No place to back out, etc. It was a tense 10 or so minutes to pull around that loop and make sure we didnt hit any cars with multiple pull forward/back up attempts. I had a short travel trailer like that guy in the video at the time. If I had a 25+ footer I think I would have literally been stuck until I could have gotten people to move their cars.Re: Anyone have a GM 1500 with Max Trailering?I don't think you would want the 5.3... even the new 5.3 with the max trailering package with that heavy of a trailer. I would go with the 6.2l and max trailering. That's a heavy trailer. I think you will be borderline on payload and maybe rear axle ratio on any 1/2 ton. The new GM and Ford 1/2 tons can get near the 2000lb payload range with their corresponding max towing packages but as BenK said you still have a lower rear axle ratio that is limited by the 1/2 ton platform.Re: was this one of you guys??The video description says I-86 in Idaho, which has a semitruck speed limit of 70mph in most areas and most if not all semitruck's go that speed. The passenger car limit is 80mph. That guy was probably doing 80-85? and got hit by a strong crosswind and/or had a violent push/pull reaction with the wind around the semitrailer. Speed is the problem.Re: Trailer Brake GainI have a 2013 F150 w/the Ecoboost and a 7000lb travel trailer. It's not uncommon to be in 2nd gear going down steep hills. As others said, the engine will rev really high, but they are designed for that. The 3.5l does not have as much engine braking capability as the larger V8s did. One thing you will learn as you gain experience is to slow down at the top of the hill. If you start at 65mph at the top of a 6-10% downhill grade you will have a much more difficult time maintaining speed than if you say, slow down to 50mph at the top of the hill. Watch how the big rigs handle the large downhill grades.Re: First-come, first served campsites along Oregon CoastLike ktmrfs said, I would try the county park system as well. We didn't have good luck planning our trip at any of the reservation parks. We tried Bastendorff Beach Park 2 years ago, it's run by Coos County. It was first come first serve at that time and nice.
