Pill Crusher http://www.pethealthpharmacy.com/ Also, the Pet Health Pharmacy is a place our vet told us about. His office calls in a prescription for our dog which is usually in pill form and they make it liquid and mail it to us.Look for a signWhen our 14 year old Chihuahua Ricky died 3 weeks ago, our youngest daughter said to watch for a sign from Ricky that he is okay, happy, and no longer in pain. I really didn't think much of it until..... We had to go back to the vet where Ricky died for our other dog and while waiting I picked up a magazine that had just arrived there. It comes out once a year and was published in August but they just got a stack of them that day. The first page it comes to I look and there is my Ricky (not a picture that looks like Ricky but a real picture of my Ricky). It was taken when he was a puppy and we were coming back from a weekend RV rally. He was lying on his back in my lap, sound asleep and so content. I guess I got my sign. I would like to think that he is letting me know that he is again a puppy, no pain, and peaceful, just as he was that day.Had to change vets after 14 yearsSome of you know that we had an almost 14 year old Chihuahua Ricky with a collapsed trachea who we just lost about 3 weeks ago. Here is the rest of the story. 7 weeks ago, we took him to our regular vet for a check up and also took our other 2 Chihuahuas with us. The vet put him on more medicine to help him breath and he was doing fine. At the same time, he checked our 12 year old Chihuahua Lucy Tu and found what he said was an abscess anal gland. He spent 20 mins squeezing and trying to stick medicine in that area. He had us bring her back every week for 4 weeks and then every 2 days. I kept asking him if it could be a tumor but he kept saying NO. A few weeks before this, Ricky had an episode of hacking all night which happens with the collapsed trachea when he gets excited and can't seem to calm down. My vet was out of town so I called another vet near by and she said bring him in immediately. Even though it wasn't her patient, she rushed us in and gave him 3 shots to calm him down and help his breathing. She then put him in a oxygen box which was big enough for him to sit up, walk around, and lie down. When we took him home, he was doing a lot better. So when Ricky had another episode 3 weeks ago, I took him into our vet and told him what the other vet had done to calm him down. He said he would take him to the back and put him on oxygen and for us to come back in a couple of hours. We came back and he said that Ricky had gone down hill and we needed to make a decision. We went to the back and Ricky was in an oxygen box the size of a shoe box. His head and neck were pushed up against the wall of the box. When he handed him to me, it was obvious in his eyes that our Ricky was no longer really with us. His mouth and tongue were turning purple and he was fighting to breath. We had to let him put Ricky out of his misery. I believe that being squashed in that box finished off his collapsed trachea. As we were leaving the vet reminded us to bring Lucy Tu back in a couple of days so he could work on her abscess. Five weeks of him working on this "abscess" and nothing and she was on antibiotics the whole time. Last week, Lucy Tu had surgery to remove that abscess which turned out to be a tumor. I just got a call from the Veterinary Surgeon and it is cancer. She believes due to blood work that it has spread. So, I went by to see the vet that took care of Ricky when our vet was out of town and asked her if she would be our vet from now on. I just can't with any good conscience go to our vet after all this. Please keep Lucy Tu in your prayers. I just don't want to lose another angel.Re: Yes, I knowJust as an update. We lost our Ricky 2 days ago. He finally got to the point where no amount of medical help could save him and we let him be humanely put to rest. Up until the day before this, he was wagging his tail and still running after the neighbor's beagle and our cat. There is a lot of pain in our home right now and it has affected not only us, our veterinarian, but many of our friends. He would have been 14 next week. At least I got to hold him through the whole procedure and hopefully he knew that I was there. Rest in peace dear devoted friend, you will never be forgotten and I couldn't have loved you more.Re: Lazy Days Campground in Seffner, FLsoricobob, we love the Tucson Lazy Days and have spent time in their campground. Unfortunately, they are kind of far for us but when we are traveling out west, we love to go there and even though it is hot as you know what in the summer when we travel, we still enjoy our stay. Great people working there as well.Lazy Days Campground in Seffner, FLWe got 4 free nights at Lazy Days campground in Seffner, FL and decided that it might be fun. We only live 8 miles from here so it is just an opportunity to get away from the house. We got here around 2pm and now at 6pm, it is raining big time. I have to say it is relaxing to say the least. Tomorrow, we can walk around the dealership and look at motorhomes that we won't be buying as we just bought this one 2 years ago but boy isn't it fun to look. After traveling the USA for 3 months, it is really nice to just sit somewhere and not worry about seeing or doing anything.Re: Fort DesotoOne or two important suggestions... When you camp there, there are a lot of raccoons and they love campers. They will actually chew through your water hose at night. there are also an ant infestation so don't leave food items in your car as they will find a way to get in. If you have pets, the pet area has a lot of low limbs so make sure you check the photos on the website. It is a nice campground but they are not full hookups. You will need to dump at the dump station so if you are going to be there for long, it may be better to use their comfort stations for showers etc.FreightlinerWe just left Gaffney, SC where we got our preventive maintenance done. I love this place. We have been coming here for a few years and the mechanics and of course, everyone's favorite lady, Pat go out of their way to get our coach in tip top shape. We met many other people there and had a great time visiting with them.Re: Yes, I knowRicky and our other 2 chihuahuas have had the same Vet sincece Ricky was 9 weeks old. Dr. Harvey is very compassionate and in the past he has let us know when one of our pets was too far gone to save or suffering and we have as a team made the decision to put the animal out of her misery. Dr. Harvey gave us enough medicine for us to make this trip and told us to take him as he knows how much Ricky has always enjoyed Rving. When I carry Ricky outside and put him on the grass, his tail starts wagging and he actually tries to hop around like a puppy. He loves the new smells, he loves it when people come up and ask if they can pet him and he loves to ride in the stroller. So he takes medicine at night, so he can't run, he still loves life and that is all that matters. In fact, right now he is bugging me for a pupperoni dog treat. When the day comes, we will discuss it with Dr. Harvey but until then, we will just love him. Just as we do our almost 12 year old chihuahua and the 10 year old. I appreciate e eryone's comments and I can assure you, we would never let Ricky suffer needlessly.Re: Passport AmericaI was just reading through our PA directory and ran across a good one. "No PA discount from 10 days before to 10 days after a holiday" Wow! Of course, they have the right but it seems a bit much.
