Thank you very much on your compliments. We are sooooo excited!Hot Springs, AR cg's. SuggestionsHello. We're thinking for our big trip this year of heading over towards Hot Springs. We're just outside Memphis, and have been there on long weekend trips, but not camping. I've been looking, but can't quite decide on which cg to book. I need to do it soon though b/c it's filling up fast. We have 2 boys, and would like to take them to see the Hot Springs attractions, but still enjoy some quiet down time at the cg. I know from reading Lake Catherine is the party place and lake Quachita is more quiet. I just don't want to have to drive 45 minutes into town. we have a 31ft tt, too and I'd prefer full hookup site. We know what we plan to do there and see, just not sure where to stay and when our dates are. DH started a new job recently and won't have vac. till June, so it will either be the week before the 4th or shortly after. I expect crowds and used to the heat and humidity. Where does your family like to stay? ThanksRe: Land Between the LakesWe stayed at Energy Lake cg in 2011. very peaceful and quiet, but no water at the sites. The bath house was kinda weird too. There's a lot to do up there at LBL and it's beautiful for sure. We plan to go back eventually and stay at Hillman Ferry.Re: Tennessee State ParksWe went to Fall Creek Falls last summer on vac. It's beautiful, but not for the out of shape, lol. Our fav TN park is Natchez Trace, but it's farther than an hr W of Nashville. Montgomery Bell I hear is beautiful and on our list of places to visit. TN State parks has a free app you can download and even make reservations from. I use it all the time checking possible trip dates for us. It list all the state parks, reservation system, and map access to and from. It's called Pocket Ranger, I think is the off. name of the app, the headline is "The official Tn State parks outdoors guide. We will be at Natchez Trace for Labor Day, kid free, woohoo. :)Re: Can I put a little baking soda in my TT toilet?THANKS! :)I prefer more natural cleaners. I make my own with white vinegar and a few drops of soap. You can use it on any surface too. Cleaned my whole camper with it.Re: Spring Break CampingOur first trip in our new to us Hornet is Spring break as well. Ours is the end of March. We're going to camp at the lake I grew up on from Thurs-Sun. I drove down there Sat. to pick our spot and booking it Fri.DH will have to work thurs and Fri, but we still wanted to take the kids somewhere. It's close enough for him to commute the 2 days. We can't wait!Re: Bunkhouse model recommendation, must have a slide, usedhttp://thefrugalhappycampers.blogspot.com/ Here's a link to a new blog I started. We were looking for exactly the same thing, and found it! The first post is about our experience. We bought from a dealership, but got an awesome deal on our 06 Keystone Hornet. I did scour Craigslist and RV Trader as well. There was a Puma BH I found on Craigslist that was 1K cheaper than our Keystone we were going to look at if the deal fell through. There are some great deals to be had out there right now. We are so thrilled with our purchase! I know I got a good deal b/c when I called to insure it, the insurance value was worth more than what we paid and if you didn't know it was 8 yrs old, you'd never know by looking at it. My blog goes into more details and has 2 pics. B/C of how we financed ours, tot he dealership it was a cash deal. I simply wrote them a check, so don't rule out looking at a dealership. Even if you do finance, I suggest using your local bank or credit union. Call them BEFORE you go look, if you finance to get their loan terms and rates. That way you choose if you use the dealership financing or your own bank. We used our credit union.Re: Can I put a little baking soda in my TT toilet? rockhillmanor wrote: First of all just so you know, there should NEVER be ANY smell coming from the tanks. Did the people you bought this trailer from have it parked permanently in a park? If so, some leave the black tank valve open all the time and there is not enough water to move the sewage out and it creates what we all call "a mountain of poop" in your black tank. I hope for you that this is not the case. For the quick fix until you can get out to a CG is fill up several gallon water jugs and schlep them out to your RV and pour them down into your black tank and add this: Be sure to read the label and that it says powerful odor control. There are 2 kinds on the shelf and look alike but the one marked natural doesn't do squat. Find at any Walmart. I'd put 2 bottles of it in. This stuff actually 'Break down Waste' others do not. I use this stuff regularly. For the gray tank put a gallon of water and any quart size liquid lemon cleaner from the grocery store. Pour water down all sinks and the shower AND.....put water in the bowl of toilet when done. P-traps Need to be filled and toilet with water to create a seal just like in you home. THAT should get you to the CG without you and the DW gagging! Good luck. Once you get over this oops you should be fine. Don't forget the That's what the older road dawg at Walmart suggested I buy as well. Thanks! Your replies have been confusing at times, but I KNOW come from a good place of trying to help this newbie to tt ownership. It's a whole new ball game going from borrowing my inlaws older hi-low {they traded for a 2014 Salem Ultralite} to actually owning and outfitting our own rig. I started a blog about buying on a budget and hope to fill it with wonderful adventures and maybe not too many misadventures. :) Once my DH gets back from Germany and gets a chance to look at it, I'll report back. Thanks again y'all. This forum has been so helpful. I've lurked for months! P.S. LBL, our power came back on while I was at my inlaws. I did have a large limb too close for comfort to the powerline connecting the main hwy line to us and my 2 neighbors houses. A friend and his Daddy helped move it yesterday. Several other limbs are down too. The boat took a hit, but no major damage. The pine trees can loose limbs all day long b/c they are away from the house, and tt. Here's a link to my new blog. http://thefrugalhappycampers.blogspot.com/Re: Can I put a little baking soda in my TT toilet?I'm just North of Memphis. We've camped at LBL before at Energy Lake. It was nice, but if we go back, we will camp at the bigger cg's. Our power went out at 8 last night and still not back on. I brought the kids over to my inlaws b/c they have electronics, lol. I'd be fine with no power, but my heatherns are a different story, lolRe: Can I put a little baking soda in my TT toilet?Thank you for your help. I honestly AM a bit confused now. The temps are freezing here right now, and I don't even have power at home b/c of ice. I will check the vents. We JUST purchased this 06 Hornet BH a week ago. the only thing I've done to it is Lysol all the surfaces and move stuff in. IDK about the previous owners usage, where it was stored, or anything like that. I just know it looks barely used. When we got it home and parked there was water in the bathroom floor, I just soaked it up with paper towels. HOW they winterized it, IDK. We purchased from a dealership, b/c the previous owners were getting a brand new 5'er. It was a super fast deal, so we honestly didn't get under it with flash lights and such. I can probably get the service records from the dealership b/c it was originally purchased there and been serviced from time to time there. I did notice a sewer odor underneath in the back storage area.I put a container of baking soda in there to help absorb odors. My husband and FIL are the camper experts, and I'm sure whatever issue is causing the smell, they can fix. That being said, my DH is in Germany working right now and will be the rest of the week. The issue will simply have to wait to be fixed until he gets home. I appreciate the helpfulness of these replies. Thanks, Sarah And whoever said it doesn't get that cold in Tn, I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Ice on trees and school being cancelled b/c of it is plenty cold for this thin blooded Southern girl. :) IDK how to navigate the forum well enough to ad a signature of exactly what we have.
