Then upgrade to a diesel and be done with it.Re: Mercedes ditching diesels in North AmericaThat would be a huge mistake for them. People's ignorance of modern diesel in this country is amazing.Re: Buying a truck from up north??"up north" doesn't help us. There are plenty of places in "the north" that don't get much ice or salt. There are many that do.Re: Viair 12volt compressorI have a built in vlair compressor and 2.5 gallon tank in my ram. I installed it inside my toolbox with the air hose receiver on the outside of the box. It's saved my bacon many many times. It's not fast, but it works.Re: Got a new to me tow vehicleI am not a Ford guy, but i had an 01 7.3 with the zf6 and i loved it. Very few things to worry about compared to any newer Ford. Keep the oil and fuel clean, don't hot rod it until it's warmed up. Tow away.Re: Maintenance, you vs. the dealership..I'm 30, and do everything myself. I grew up not knowing anything mechanical, losing my dad at a young age. Didn't take wood or metal shop in high school. Around 20yrs old I started learning. Now at 30 I've built houses, bridges, logged mountains, I'm a certified welder, backyard diesel mechanic, knifemaker... Some of it comes from being self employed for most of my life. You figure it out yourself until you have more money than time, then on occasion it pays to pay others. But usually they screw it up. So I do it right myself the first time. Or if I screw it up then I learned something and im a better man for it.Re: Cummins to Hemi?Never. I'd take a 1990s Cummins over a newer hemi. But that's just personal preference. Many ways to figure out how to carry more.Re: Towing > 40ft - drw vs srw?I have towed many different goosneck loads between 15-30k lbs in both single and drw trucks. There really is no comparison. It can be done with a srw truck, but stability and feel is completely different. Under 15k or in a pinch it can be done safely with srw. If you tow regularly over 15k it isn't much of a choice. Obviously it is silly to talk about total trailer weight when the rawr is what matters, and most fifth wheels over 14k or so overweight the ratings of the rear tires and axle. Losing a rear tire at 60+ with 8k+lbs on the rear of your truck is not fun.Re: 2011 Ram 2500 6.7L TurboI have the same truck. If you want more performance I'd do a second gen turbo swap, but if you just want a fix then I'd find a used low mile turbo on Craigslist. Call up some diesel performance shops and they might have some in stock even. You cannot get just the actuator from my knowledge.Re: 144 days in a 18 foot boxAwesome post. Planning a trip several months long it is difficult to calculate actual costs. On paper is often different than the real world. Any specific advice for anyone planning similar trips? Things that you didn't expect?
