So appareantly (apparently) you have been welcomed to the real world. The dealer/s are always looking for a deal also!..:W Dealer doesn't care how nice your 5th is. More profit selling new ones. Sales manager *may* have gleaned more from your conversation - than we readers did by "reading between the lines" of your post, LOL! Or - he's just being honest. Your "local money" is likely good enough anywhere - however, the value you expect for your trade-in might not be, and will probably offset the deal you expect from *any* dealer. Trade-in value "up" = Cost of new unit "up"..:S Funny how that works..;) As others have indicated - why not sell your RV yourself? If it's as nice as you indicate - and the price is right, it should be easy. Or are there just "too many used 5th wheels" out there??..:? BTW - Nice newbie rant..;) Happier dealing! And...hope your "local money" goes as far as you anticipate..:B ~ I sense sarcasm....and I am not a newbie just choose not to post much :WRe: So appareantly there are too many used 5th wheelsand the other thing is no numbers have ever been talked about, only number that was spoken was when I asked about the internet price they had it advertised as was correct. At no time have they made an offer, did I say I want X amount for mine nothing!Re: So appareantly there are too many used 5th wheels WyoTraveler wrote: JMHO, dealer probably figured you knew too much about RVs and he wanted bigger profits on it. Most liiely didn't have anything to do with your trade. I have walked into dealers that listed their RVs at MSRP. Tried to tell me they only made a couple thousand on an RV and if they took a trade wouldn't make any money except on service later. When they start lying I move on. However, A local dealer here doesn't deal on RVs but he has a great service department and he is honest. I still go for service. An attorney told me one time, if you ask questions you know the answer to you will find out very quickly about individual honesty. You may be on to something here, when I initially called to see if the unit was still there (originally saw it on there website) the sales manager immediately asked " is this your first camper" I said no, he said well is this your first 5th wheel, I said no been camping for years and told him what we had and our previous units he said.....OH.......well let me check and call you back. That's when the salesman took over.Re: So appareantly there are too many used 5th wheels fj12ryder wrote: I'm not sure what's to be so upset over. The dealer should be aware of what he can sell, and what he can't. He has a left over 2 year old unit that he obviously can't sell, so why should he take a 3 year old unit in trade? You made an offer, he rejected it. That's the nature of the business. I'm sure you wouldn't be upset if you made a cash offer on a new unit and he turned it down. Or was it just being put off and not replied to? Little bit of everything to be honest, and its just odd to me of a dealer not taking a trade. I worked in the auto industry for a long time, never saw a dealer not take a trade. I could see if my rig was 25 years old or just trashed and they really couldn't do anything with it. When I purchased my current rig and traded in my sunline TT the owner of the dealership, service manager and detail guy all came to me separately and thanked me for taking such great care of the unit and how they didn't have to do anything to it but put a sticker in the window. Like I said its there loss, I will most likely be back in another coachman by the end of the year of first part of springRe: So appareantly there are too many used 5th wheels darsben wrote: You said check with the owner. Owner of the dealership or was this a consignment? Owner of the dealership, and trying to privately sell my camper wont really work around here as buyers will need to get there own financing vs going directly through the dealer who can get it for them. The thing is they never even looked at my trade, told him what it was, offered to either bring it to them or they could come look at it as I only live a couple miles from them. They aren't really a small dealer, but there are several around that are much much bigger. And we are not upside down either......the other new units they have on the lots now are much more high end, I actually spoke to someone this morning about what happened and was told they did a very similar thing to them but told them there unit was too new and they wouldn't be able to sell it. can tell you one thing right now they will never get my business from here on out, I would rather drive 2hrs than 2 minutes simply by the way I was treated and the manner that I was dealt with.So appareantly there are too many used 5th wheelsHaven't been looking hard but I am always up for a deal, DW and I would like a little more room inside our rig since we are traveling farther away and for longer amounts of time. Our rig is a 2012 chaparral, near mint condition with only one minor imperfection to the exterior(drivers side plastic fender caulk is pealing) I am really particular about my stuff, and have more wax on the 5vr than most people will ever see in there life. Anyway I came across a left 2013 cougar, heavily discounted since its a left over. Looked at it this weekend, spoke to the salesman, said we were very interested, but the cap was faded and he had to check with the owner and service about getting it fixed before I would buy it. Called the salesman Monday morning to reconfirm how serious I was and what I brought to the table. Well I waited all day Monday for an answer, finally got a call after bugging them on my way home and was told "sorry, sales manager isn't interested in the deal since he doesn't want your trade, we have too many used rigs on the lot. WOW so now since the season is about over they will most likely have a 2013 on the lot well into 2015! Mind is blown at this point, kinda irritating really, there loss as I will now go back to my chaparral dealer and no one else! Guess my local money is good enough for my local dealer! really a shame!Re: Dirty diesel islands revealedI find it amazing how messy the diesel pump areas get here, how do you make such a mess? I hardly spill a drop filling up any diesel vehicle here and yet I go to get out of my truck and there is fuel all over the ground. Make you wonder what the inside of these peoples vehicles look like!Re: Ram Fifth Wheel Prep and Reese Adapter Cummins12V98 wrote: My truck does not take DEF but the next will. I am all about buying in bulk and saving $. But I think I will be buying my DEF in the future when I need it and not taking a risk on it going bad. As you stated DEF has a shelf life, unless your using a large amount, say using your truck daily pulling large heavy loads or you have a company and use a lot it doesn't pay to buy the DEF in the bulk. Its cheaper to purchase from walmart or keep an eye on your local parts store when they have sales and buy a couple boxes. The way I do it is every time I top my tank off with a box I go to the store and buy a new one, that way I always have one on hand in case something comes up or we go away on a trip where there is a possibility that I will need to fill the tank upRe: Ram Fifth Wheel Prep and Reese Adapter Cummins12V98 wrote: deerslayer wrote: dodgeboy wrote: I have a reese 16K hitch with the picture frame adapter, I am using the pins and not the bolts. I will look into the B&W, but the entire setup is Reese, I thought it would just work. Perhaps it is because it is the 16k and not the 20k?? Thanks!! I have a 2014 2500 ram long bed with the prep package. I use a reese 20k pro slider (slider is from my previous shortbed truck, didnt see buying a new hitch) And I purchased the reese adapter from. Took me less than 5 mins to install the whole assembly. I don't have any play other than the normal movement from the hitch being a slider. I would look at the hitch and make sure nothing is out of whack. I can send you pics of mine if you like..... As far as the "additive", I buy the Blue def from napa, I can usually get it for less than $15.00 a box ( 2 1/2gal) and it last a long time. For ex. I just came back from a trip to Niagara falls, Canadian side from De. I topped off my tank before we left, took 9 hrs worth of driving to get there, through the mountains, truck ave. 12.5mpg up and back. We had a stop over on the way home in Jonestown Pa. All in all we drove well over 1000 miles towing the our 10k lb 5th wheel and the def gauge never moved. If you have a cummins ram and you are burning enough DEF that you calculate it into your MPG you need to take it to your dealer and have them reflash your truck with the new updates! There is no reason to be burning that much DEF. My truck averages 18-20mpg daily running, 23-25 on the highway and flat towing my 5vr its ave. 14.5 mpg. get your truck to the dealer! DEF has a short shelf life. As you say the trucks don't use much. Also 2.5 gallons for $15 is a very high price. It all depends on the sales they are running and the brand, the last two box's I purchased were 10.99. I have used the Blu def since I purchased the truck and that's what I try to stay with.Re: Ram Fifth Wheel Prep and Reese Adapter dodgeboy wrote: I have a reese 16K hitch with the picture frame adapter, I am using the pins and not the bolts.
