The Real DealAs a unofficial member of what is referred to as the weight police, please keep in mind that this is an educational forum. We are not going to jump out and arrest you. Having spent more than 20 years as a weight and balance specialist (ACFT Loadmaster) I have more understanding than most. I have operated under various rules running from peace time "take no chances- be safe", to combat, "just get it there, and try not to break anything." After you post, read the comments and make the decision that take the various opinions into account. Its your life. Unfortunately our decisions sometimes put others at risk. Its actually in Montana but the roads wander back and forth across the state line. Small campground with host, lake, free firewood etc. Regards and happy camping BillRe: New Ram California DMV issues dodge guy wrote: I would make another call and ask some more questions. I can’t see why a brand new truck that meets California emissions need to be smog checked? That doesn’t even make sense! ' Taxifornia is not about making sense, its about extracting the maximum amount of revenue. sorry BillRe: TV AntennaWe have what we feel is one of those useless "saucer" antennas. Lousy reception. Is there an easy way to replace it? Anytime we open a roof option, we worry about resealing it. Regards and Thanks BillRe: 1 Ton SRW ChallengeAN increasingly important factor that has been ignored here is the new safety technologies like Adaptive Cruise Control, side/rear viewing cameras, and BlISS(blind spot warning systems). All of these will increasingly influence buying decisions and truck safety. Once you have had them, you don't want to be without them. None were factored in here. My thoughts BillRe: Ford F350 towing a 2017 Fox Mountain 235 RLS?Hi Everyone I wish to disagree with the comment that a F350 is "overkill". Our current 2500 Silverado is more than adaquate physically. However by the time we load 2 Honda 2000's, their auxillay fuel tank, and fill the truck aux tank, we are often over our allowable gross cargo weight by several hundred pounds when the pin weight is added in. Our 235 is 300 plus pounds heavier than the advertised pin weight. So much for sales brochures. The true pin weight was listed on a sticker we found inside the cabinet next to the rig door. We have towed this way for over 4 major trips (9k miles) and never felt unsafe. This included a 17 degree climb in and out of Pittsburg Landing in Devils Canyon. However, legally we were pushing the limits and it was always a struggle to shift weights and reduce cargo loads. Were not entirely thrilled about the truck upgrade, but we feel the weight cushion is needed just for our peace of mind, if nothing else. Regards Bill and CaroleRe: Ford F350 towing a 2017 Fox Mountain 235 RLS?We did go to the Ford dealership and did measure. The heights were close but we are concerned about the infamous Ford sag. Lots of variables and not much wriggle room. Sorry about the type in the truck ID. I have spent a huge amount of time researching this truck and typed it in without thinking. Thank you for your replies And ACZL, your driving a dully. It should be lower than our single rear whl. Problems? BillFord F350 towing a 2017 Fox Mountain 235 RLS?Hi Everyone We are concerned about matching up our Fox Mountain 235RLS with a new Ford F350 Super Cab. The truck bed heights seem to be the same as our current truck, a Chevy Silverado F250. We are planning to reuse our Reese 16K slider to connect. We are concerned with bed-5ver contact. the rig has the axles flipped, as large a tire as possible, and only a small amount of pin (one set of holes) to adjust. We have just ordered the truck and it will have a short bed. Does anyone have any practical experience doing this? Regards Bill and CaroleRe: Too much money for overnight stay!I guess I am in the minority on this one. Paying for a full nights stay for the use of a measly 4 hours makes it $12.50 per hour. Now if they are nearing capacity this is reasonable. If not, then its usury. I am not sure how fully both were so these are my thoughts. Any non-situational, hard and fast bureaucratic rules are just that, Bureaucratic.I they weren't full, they lost $50.Re: 3/4 Ton 250, 2500 payload limitations (gas vs diesel) 95jersey wrote: Thanks for all the replies. Just don't want to make an expensive mistake. I hear you. Its a lot of bucks, and it comes down to what we can afford or are willing to pay. We remember our "lean years" and fortunately have moved beyond them. And we haven't even addressed the issue of what is to be towed. I have no doubt that the newer V8s have the power to tow and certainly are 8 to 9K less expensive. This being said, we have the luxury of diesel and are enjoying that luxury while we can. We kept our last truck 11 years and still have it, although we have just ordered, you guessed it, a new diesel. Regards Bill
