I believe she called the dealer to find out what was her towing limit? She has a 12 passenger Chevy van I don't recall the size of the engine. But the dealer told her that the van it's rated at 10,000 lbs for towing. Just to give you an idea of weights, mine with this floor plan, packed for camping with empty water tanks has a 7920# trailer axle weight with 1208# tongue weight. Of course this is for my trailer, so it may be different based on manufacturer.Re: New travel trailer for my daughter.. APT wrote: There are at least 20 brands offering a variation of this floorplan that could work: What does your daughter plan to tow this RV with? This is the same floor plan as mine (2013 springdale 303bhssr), we had some friends go camping with us for 2 days and we had a total of 4 adults, 5 kids, and 2 dogs. It was cramped but worked.Re: Experience with dealers in Central VirginaWe purchased a TT from McGeorges in December and it was a mixed bag as far as our experience goes. See my post here. The sales guy was very friendly, but not very knowledgeable about towing and assured us our F150 could tow the unit we were purchasing (which we found out it would've been overloaded by a decent amount). On the plus side the unit had a small water leak on the lot due to the slide gasket, which they fixed the gasket and replaced the wood that was damaged, then the electric jack shorted during our pre-inspect, which they also replaced with a better jack, then they also installed a wireless keypad lock free of charge due to delays getting us the unit.Re: Dogs in TT'sWe have 2 rescue dogs that weight 100+ pounds each. We travel with them in their air crates strapped in the bed of our truck w/topper. The only reason for this is our 10yo and 2yo by law have to ride in the cab of the truck with us :)Re: What do you put under your stabilizers and trailer tongue? We use these, they are a little pricey, but work fantastic. Utility BlocksRe: Think I messed upThank you all for the advice. My wife and I ended up selling her car and buying a 2006 F250 diesel with 48k miles on it, which she now uses as her daily driver and loves it. We ended up delaying picking up the TT until we had the TV situation fixed and I am sooo glad we did. The F250 handled great towing and felt stable on the highway, which I know my F150 would've had a lot of trouble. Thanks again!Re: Think I messed upThank you everyone for your advice on this. I have spoken with the dealership and pretty much their answer was no, since I had already signed the papers and handed over the check, it is mine now. So the good news is I got the trailer I wanted, the bad news is I maxed out on the truck. So it is looking like I am at plan "B", start looking for another truck. As a side note I do have experience hauling, but with a 7 ton MTVR and 50ft trailer. The reason I'm here asking this is because all I was taught was how to get it from point A to B and not accidently kill anyone, and nothing about weight distribution, hitch weight, or trailer weight restrictions.Re: Think I messed upWe have signed the paperwork already (unfortunately before I realized the problem). The 900# hitch weight is with the WDH/bottles/battery installed. The only way I can think to ease things is to have my wife/kids/spare cargo in our SUV every time we go out camping, and to remove my tailgate to lower my trucks GVW prior to hooking up. As far as the TT is concerned (forgive me for my lack of knowledge, still learning things and the only way to learn more is ask) if I'm smart about loading and keep weight near the axle of the TT or slightly behind, would that help with hitch weight?Think I messed upMy wife and I finally decided to take the plunge and buy an RV. We visited a local major RV dealership, and the first question asked was what am I using as a TV. We had just purchased a 2012 F150 FX4 a couple of months back as our first truck, so I gave them the information I had from the window sticker stating I had the tow package with a 3.73 gear. I was told that I could haul 11,300lbs so I was gtg for almost anything on the lot, so after some looking and many trips back we settled on a 2013 Springdale 303BHSSRWE for $17,900. I was talking to a friend at work regarding our new purchase and he stated that we might have bit off more then we could chew, and that we needed to check our trucks GVWR. Well after looking at the sticker on the inside of my door we found out that its only 7200# which led me to find out that our max trailer weight is 9700# not the 11,300 stated at the dealer. I don't know for sure if we messed up really bad, so I am looking here to find out. Here is the info I know: TV: 2012 Ford FX4 Eco boost V6 GVCW: 15,500 Max trailer weight: 9,700 GVWR: 7,200 Front GAWR: 3,750 Rear GAWR: 4,050 I went to a weight station and got the current numbers for my truck with full tank and me in it. Front axle: 3,320 Rear axle: 2,700 GVW: 5,920 TT: Weights done at dealership by my request. Hitch weight: 900 Weight w/bottles and battery: 7,820 Fastway WD hitch and sway We pick up the trailer for the 1st time on Friday 12 December. Please someone smarter then me in this let me know if we just wasted money on a trailer I cant tow safely.
