CFE (electric company) charged us as a business about 3.8 pesos per KW hour. We were going to raise our rate to 4 pesos per KW hour the next year. Usage cost is totally dependant on the amount of electricity consumed. Some Rvers had solar panels and paid no more than 50 pesos a month, others were electricity guzzlers, with extra freezers, electric heaters, and more. Some of these bills were upwards of $1000 pesos per month. Meters were the best thing we did for the business. You use it, you pay for it, and we kept our rates low. I know CFE has raised their rates since, but don't know the business rate at present.Re: RV Parks in need of a Plug! Thanks, Paul, for letting us know. We will make sure to be around then. Keep us posted.Re: RV Parks in need of a Plug!Last I knew, HC 180 pesos per night, not sure if that includes electricity, with discounts for the week and month. Chema's was 150 per night which includes electricity, and applicable discounts for the week.Re: RV Parks in need of a Plug!Unfortunately the web site is no longer in service. After we sold the place the new owners weren't going to use it as a campground, so we pulled the webpage. But now they like the idea. Maybe because Chema opened one up closer to town behind his restaurant. But the HC is looking great and the trees have really grown. I'm sure the new owner would love to see more RVers show up again. Chema is more than accommodating at his place, Hacienda del Retiro. And YES the water is great at both places, comes from wells over 200 feet deep. It has been tested and is almost as good as most bottled waters. Enjoy!Re: Americans Returning to Baja as Crime DipsOh yeah, and Rob, I get my Vitamin C in my tequila....Re: Americans Returning to Baja as Crime DipsThe people are what makes Mexico unsurpassed in friendliness and hospitality. I married into a Mexican family 41 years ago and was accepted as family immediately, NEVER once was I made to feel unwelcome. The reason Sal and I came back to his roots has to do with economics, weather, and family, what more is there? Granted there are problems here as there are anywhere in the world. The big problem of course at present is that an enterprising people are supplying the incessant demand for illegal substances north of the border. Most would be surprised that many of the problems are not even being caused by Mexicans, but other groups from other countries that can pass as Mexicans. Therefore I stand by my claim of a wonderful country with wonderful people. And I agree, most would have never left at all if other means of economic gratification had been available. Also agree that if you don't have anything nice to say we don't need you here.Re: Paper Money - Old v New PesosBoth are still valid. The older one is the larger one, but not old enough to be worthless yet. I spent both today.Re: Hacienda ContrerasOH, Sorry about that. I just meant to get the info out to all the people who had been wondering about the status. Didn't mean to step on anyone's toes.Re: Crossing at ColumbiaRemember though that Columbia has limited hours of service. On Sundays they are only open for a few hours, through the week the hours are from 8 am to midnight I believe, though you wouldn't be crossing that late anyway. Plus most likely you will be traveling on the Texas toll way to get to the Columbia bridge. You may either prepay online or they will take your license plate picture and mail you a bill. www.texastollways.com It was $3.99 a few years ago.Re: Hacienda Contreras Under New OwnershipThanks Croft, surely we will see you down the road. We know that the people who paid for patios will be able to return this season, and the new owners says people with reservations can come. Rocmoc, you have a reservation, right? Sal and I will still be there in our 5er on our patio, we just cannot guarantee what amenities will be available. Im leaving a washing machine, and have a feeling that who ever shows up will be allowed to camp this season, and maybe the new owner will find it easier than he thought and keep it open. Too much up in the air right now. The new owner does understand that people may show up and he is not going to turn them away. He does have a night watchman that will watch the park, the stored RVs, including ours, and the building, so Sherman is fine. He plans on a full time gardener too, so we will just see what time brings. Sal and I will be in the states till the middle of October, so again, anyone wanting to come email us first.
